Formerly a heli-ski operation, resort construction began in fall of 1999 and Kicking Horse opened its doors December 8, 2000. Build-out should be reached in 2010. Kicking Horse is the first entirely new resort to be built in Canada in the last 25 years. An 8-passenger state-of-the-art gondola, the Golden Eagle Express, takes skiers from the village to the top of the mountain and a mountain top restaurant called the Eagle's Eye. A lodge is located in the Gondola Plaza providing ski-in, ski-out accommodations for visitors. The skiing is, as they say, awesome.
Townhouses are available on the mountain. B&Bs, cabins, chalets, hotels, lodges, and motels available nearby.
Cafeteria, ski rental, lessons, and retail shop. Eagle's Eye is Canada's highest mountain top restaurant at 7,705 feet.
Cross country, telemark skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing available within an hour drive, and flight-sightseeing. World's largest enclosed grizzly bear refuge.
Snowboarding is allowed.
Nearby 14 km of track-set trails, with 1.5 km of skating track. Beginner loop trails, plus intermediate and expert trails. Trailside warming hut is 1 km into the course. Use of trails is free of charge; lessons are available through Golden Guides.
