Lake Mountain is situated about 2 hours drive north of Melbourne (making it the closest reliable snow to the centre of Melbourne) with the closest town being Marysville which is about a 20 minute drive. This is also the closest accommodation with no on snow accomodation available.

Lake Mountain is one of the three busiest Cross Country Ski Resorts in the world. It's ski trail system offering the cross country skier thirty seven kilometres of well marked trails, ranging from the first time skier to the most advanced.

In addition to this it has a dedicated snowplay and toboggan area with snowmaking facilities making it an ideal destination for daytrippers wanting to experience snowplay. The modern administration and day centre offers a range of food and services and a warm retreat when necessary.

The season runs from mid June to early October but both ends of this can be quite marginal with peak season being August and September. All vehicles may be instructed to carry chains during winter and park entry fees apply.
