Craigieburn Valley Ski Area, located in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Alps, has achieved cult status amongst NZ's hottest skiers; steep, deep and cheap. Craigieburn has wide open powder bowls, steep narrow chutes, and an infamous 600 meter vertical drop in the Middle basin (an experience often equated with heliskiing). There is no terrain for beginner skiers and ski hire facilities on the mountain. Craigieburn is located 1.5 hrs (110km) from Christchurch on highway 73.
Staying in one of alpine lodges with accomodations for up to 65 people in economical 6-person bunkrooms or more private double rooms.
