Antiquated lift infrastructure and a very frontier feel to one of Russia's top ski centres. The resort is 200km (125 miles) from the Chechan border and police guard many of the hotels and other facilities. Ticket prices for the three chair and two drag lifts have been ludicrously low for hard currency holders, who can also afford to queue jump, but are steadilly rising. The Cheget double chair lift has two stages. The first rises to the station I (Moon from Balkarian) over a change of altitude of 650 m with a descent back down of 1.6km. The total length of the ski runs is more than 35 km, the longest one is Stary Krugozor - Azau - at 2.km. All runs are marked and prepared by snow groomers. The resort hosted the International Free Skiers Tour in March 2001.
