Wildcat in Jackson is a throwback to the way skiing used to be and, some say, ought to be. The culture is laid back and the mountain can often throw tough stuff at you. Wildcat is a favorite of skiers and riders who like their trails to challenge them. Fancy outfits are worn elsewhere. This is the real thing.
The resort offers snowmaking on 90 percent of its 220 acres and has invested in some "behind-the-scenes" improvements, such as grooming equipment and snowmaking pipes, for the 2005/06 season. And get ready to ride: It's slated to open October 28.One lodge with 100 bunks near the slope, 2,000 beds also available within a 20-mile radius.
