Mad River Glen is Vermont's throwback ski area. The resort is located in Waitsfield, close to the much larger and more stylish Sugarbush, offering quite a range of styles. Mad River Glen offers many unique features, such as the nation's last surviving single chairlift. ("Really!" they say.) More than $2 million has been invested in capital improvements over the past 10 years, but the resort's skier-owners and management strive to enhance the Mad River Glen experience rather than change or overhaul it.
Mad River Glen's long-term capital plan calls for spending about $120,000 for the 2005/06 season, a bit less than in a typical year as resources are being saved for a $1.4 million single chair renovation slated to be completed in summer '06. Skiers will also notice a new streamlined ticketing system. Traditionalists can rest assured that this change will not lead to the increasingly ubiquitous lift ticket "scanning" on the single chair.A variety of lodging is available from country inns to condos, and family townhouses to B & Bs.
Ski school programs for all levels, daycare for children 6 months to 6 years, naturalist programs most every weekend, full service ski and rental shop along with a retail store, and table service along with cafeteria dining. Fifteen percent snowmaking.
Diverse terrain offers an unparalelled experience as Mad River Valley combined with Sugarbush offers skiers and experience over three mountains. Shuttle service and interchangeable lift tickets are available.
Mad River Glen does not permit snowboarding.
Ole's Cross Country Center and the Blueberry Lake Cross Country Center are just down the road. Both offer tracked and skate skiing in an unmatched natural setting.
