    Fishing in Japan

Always fun flashing a few catch shots around when I'm in Japan! We've always fished in our family. One day I'd like to come to Japan in a different season than winter and do some fishing. My brother is actually a commercial fisherman now and comes back with 100-200kg of fish some days, mostly...

Day to Day WA & Perth weather

There was a decent flurry of snow showing up on the forecasts for Bluff Knoll for Monday morning, but the latest run has downgraded it away.

The big Hakuba thread 2017/2018 - trip planning, trip reports, general musings about fried chicken

Looks like I'll be spending a week in Hakuba in January! About time I checked it out I guess. 20th to 27th currently.

    Mt Bandai accommodation

How much business do they do in the spring and summer? I wandered into what seemed to be a hotel and a function centre? The hallways and walls looked like marble...it was a little bit surreal LOL

Short, sharp, and tight through course 14. Not sure we skied the course 13 trees. There's some good sidecountry around too :)

They did not, we got told off over the loudspeaker for going into the trees.

    Mt Bandai accommodation

These guys were at Alts Bandai for a week solid last year, didn't take their guests anywhere else in the area. Must have been epic FOMO watching us bugger off to other hills in the morning.

Zao could use some inbound tree runs too! They probably do just fine as a resort without it though, the Juhyo are a big tourist draw-card already, and it's got a great village setup.

    Mt Bandai accommodation

I didn't really enjoy the Hoshino resort to be honest. There is only the one expensive buffet, and it's quite a busy place. You will not find serenity at the hotel Onsen for example. I also felt a bit claustrophobic after the 5 nights, even though it's a big hotel. We did stay at an excellent...

    Resource Japan 2018 thread

Reading between the lines, you're saying Japanese men are able to tell approximately how old younger Japanese women are? Remarkable if true! LOL

    Resource Japan 2018 thread

Interesting story, I once dated a woman in Canada who had previously been in a relationship with a Japanese man. They met and fell in love in Canada, and after some time decided to go back to Japan as a couple. Upon getting to Japan, he started working a full time job. She had not realised in...

Stirling Range National Park - Oct 2017

Nice, Talyuberlup really does look like a spectacular walk. I was intending to do the Nancy peak hike on this trip too, but the weather came in while I was at the top of Castle Rock in the morning. This site has some excellent guides too...

Stirling Range National Park - Oct 2017

There's two on the Northern side of the park. Stirling Range Retreat and Mt Trio Bush Camp. The former has some cabins that can be booked, whereas Mt Trio does not. I'd say it's almost certainly one of those two sites.

Stirling Range National Park - Oct 2017

A lot of people you talk to about the climb will mention that they've never had views from the peak due to cloud cover, so we were really lucky with the weather. The majority of the park is above 200m and the bluff carpark itself is at around 400m ASL. It would seem even bigger if it came all...

Stirling Range National Park - Oct 2017

It's kind of odd, Bluff seems like the only one without a proper cairn. At least I haven't noticed it the two times I've been there. Trio has 2 quite large ones, and the actual highest point of Toolbrunup is a flat bit of rock about 2m wide, so the cairn is understandably small.

Stirling Range National Park - Oct 2017

No snow on this trip, but a decent amount of vertical was hiked, and I thought some of you might be interested in seeing some photos from the area. So here goes... I'd basically been down in this area around Easter as part of a bigger road trip, and the weather was pretty average, so I'd...
