Flathead is what i will be targeting tomorrow. @Ramenman do you have size limits for these in Japan. In Queensland the minimum size is 40cm and the maximum size is 75cm ( over 75 will be female and breeders ).

The red fish that you call Tai looks very much similar to a juvenile Snapper, or Squire, as we call them in Australia.

The big Hakuba thread 2017/2018 - trip planning, trip reports, general musings about fried chicken

I think the ******** element has eased off the last few years (downturn in mining ? who knows) or is it that I just don't notice it anymore.? Anyway it's always the case that you notice the dickheads, the other 95% are all good.

    Japanese Whisky

The bulk food store on the road up to Happo from the station sells lamb roasts, no bone. Reasonable price as well. (aussie connection there).

    Japanese Whisky

Some years ago a Yamaya store in Tsu had a bottle of Penfolds Grange for 25000Y. In hindsight I should have bought.

    Yummy Japan

There is a great little place on the Nagano - Hakuba road, where they teach you to make your own. A quaint old building with open fire place to cook them. Very yummy.

    Yummy Japan

The only two things I don't like are Squid jerky (I call it squirky) and natto. Though my local fav eatery does a salad with natto mixed in it and it is then quite nice (also does raw marinated horse..again quite nice)

I always try to converse with my Japanese neighbour in Nihongo, but she always replies in English as she wants to practice as well. Sometime it gets rather funny with both mispronouncing things.
