Noah, you called it as you saw it. You had a great day skiing in the fresh snow and the wetness didnt bother you. You are a better man than most of us. A day like today puts off many a longtime ski tragic, i for one would have lasted maybe 2hrs until soaked through then retreated indoors. There...

Observations 2nd-10th August - Hand of Faith

Temperature forecasts for today were always marginal Freeze levels are around 2000asl at the moment, which is higher than predicted. So we will get the moisture but its likely to be snow/rain mix and not that pleasant to ski on. It will be a great base builder and will fill in and cover alot of...

Vail Building More on Snow Accommodation (or Acquiring and Updating Existing Ones)

The Village expansion was killed off by National Parks and their Bed Tax. Even existing commercial lodges are struggling with this huge impost and many have sold in the last few years. Its nothing to do with Perisher "being bastards" or current or previous owners being evil. The new village...

You should never be using "4wd low" on road under any circumstance unless the road surface is completely covered in thick snow. 4wd low locks the centre Diff so 50% power goes to front axle and 50% to rear with no slip, when you drive on tarmac around corners the front and rear tyres spin at...

Useful Tool for tracking the fires, Satellite Hotspots https://hotspots.dea.ga.gov.au/ Just remember a hotspot is not always a fire but most often will be. Mt Selwyn is getting awfully close now, even hotspots within 15k of Thredbo and Perisher. Does not bode well for Saturday.

Snow Report Perisher 2019 Trip Reports. Pics, Updates, Conditions.

The Perisher weather station recorded 52.4mm to 9am this morning, given that it was around -5 that gives us very dry snow (low moisture level) so an actual snow depth around x10 from that reading. So around 50cm has fallen in last 24hrs, given that it is extremely windy you will get a massive...

Been skiing Mt P all morning has been snowing the whole time. Pretty decent at the top 2/3 of the mountain but wet snow at the bottom and sticky for last 50metres or so. Would be a couple of centimeters already. Vis is marginal but not complete whiteout.
