Buying ski/snowboard gear in Tokyo season 2020/21

After a non event for Aussies in Japan last season, I'll post this with the hope that Aussies will be able to get across here to Japan in early 2022. After the worst January snow in 60 years in 2020 followed by COVID, the 2021 season was quiet in Japan. Often just 10s of people around at Hakuba...

Latest Japan ski & tourism news

I've NEVER seen such a high snow line at Hakuba (mid season) like the 2020 season. You weren't just a TAD unlucky, it was insane how bad that was. That's why I spent the rest of the season at Shiga Kogen. (~1500m to 2000m in the main area around Ichinose/Yakebitai) 1100m is at the bottom of...

The "valid visa" is a resident's visa. The "Visa exemption measures for Australian passport holders have been paused", along with 61 of the 68 countries on the list. 7 countries seem to have had their "Visa exemption" reinstated. At some stage, Australia's "Visa exemption" will also be reinstated

Snow industry on brink of collapse after second winter of COVID-19 lockdowns and no trade

This is a thread about the snow industry on the brink of collapse, not about submarines and federal elections. More Bear Pit talk will be deleted.

Australians were visiting Japan from October - end of December last year. Restrictions at that stage were based on exemptions at the Aussie end.

To clarify: ## Only applicable to those who CAN currently enter Japan. More info: "Home" could be a designated home that is not your own.... you specify this on arrival According to the "Pledge" I have to sign, For 14 days after entering Japan: "(1) I will stay at the location of my home or...

Updated rules for those who can currently enter Japan. Japan Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW) have announced an updated rule for the quarantine of people arriving from abroad due to COVID-19 situation. The major updates are as follows: USA (all states), Finland, France, and...

Depends on the seat, and how the armrests fold back. Seats in the old days were crappy, the Delta seats are fine.

My point was that RIGHT NOW, aircraft are mostly empty....... as you can see by my screen captures of the occupied seats, with only 16 out of 112 seats I've shown are occupied. In the whole aircraft, there's only 43 passengers currently, out of a total of 266 seats.... and the flight is only 5...

I suspect that the first few weeks after flights resume out of Australia, there will probably still be flights less than half full. Based on my experience, I have some tips: - Check your seat allocation a couple of weeks before your flight, to get an idea of how crowded the flight will be, then...

Air Canada to Restart Australia Flights but only for Fully Vaccinated Passengers

The US airlines did the opposite a few months back. They had round trip flights to Japan for less than $300 USD. (Any time between Dec - March 2022)

Fat Skis - The "Playful Charger"

My take on skis is different. "Rocker. Tail rocker one of the key design features because it gives you the ability to release the edge when you're mid turn and slide the tails. Tip rocker is needed, but it doesn't seem to matter as long as it's there's enough to ride over lumps in the snow" I...

Air Canada to Restart Australia Flights but only for Fully Vaccinated Passengers

I have no complaints at all about the flying experience on Delta. It's full service internationally, and if anything, it's better because there are so few people. You can take 3 or 4 seats for a sleep (I've been flying Delta Comfort+, which is main cabin but with 10cm of extra leg room over...

    Shiga Kogen 2021 - 2022 season

Japanese people don't book more than a few weeks out, so 3 months out is ok. I usually do this right on 3 months. However, midweek accomm is easy to get a week out.

Air Canada to Restart Australia Flights but only for Fully Vaccinated Passengers

I know that round trip flights to North America from Japan are often 2-3x as expensive right now, compared to flights out of North America. e.g. Japan > USA > Japan ~$1600 USD USA > Japan > USA ~$600 USD I ended up booking TWO round trip flights: 1. July to December, Japan > USA > Japan ~$1600...

It's different here in Japan, compared to Australia. There is a "state of emergency", but quite frankly, is doesn't have much impact. There have been no lock downs at all. The economic impact due to "state of emergency" is nothing like the impact in Australia due to lock downs. It's had an...
