Bugger all at Mawson by the looks. Dunno about the Central Highlands. Wellington looked speccy this morning.

Final plans for 2.7 km Mt Wellington aerial tram

I think I have expressed before that my views on this were blinkered in that I had no real appreciation for the aboriginal heritage claims on the mountain. Leaving those aside for a moment I have always been ambivalent about the proposal because the environment is already visually degraded and...

    Western Arthurs

Can't help with the weather but make sure you are aware of what you can and can't do subsequent to the damaging fires of a couple of Summers ago. I don't recall the details off the top of your head but a full traverse is not yet possible I think. Still plenty of good stuff can be accessed...

    Trip Report Melbourne

The lack of ability to flex the forefoot in any meaningful way means these techniques can never truly match the beauty and sublimeness of a Tele on "real" ski gear. Of course it is not what these devices are designed for! But it's the closest I get to any form of skiing these days.

    Trip Report Melbourne

I've often wondered whether a pair of slap skates would allow me to fake a tele. It's not the same just rolling on the front wheel of the rear skate. Too twitchy. I have faked it that way though just for shits and giggles. I recall the Port Melbourne link being OK but a bit scratchy and...

Just out of interest, when you are cruising long distance, do you back off the top buckle to allow you more forward flexion? If you haven't tried it I'd recommend giving it a go. It gives you a bit more nuance on the edge contact angles in the push phase. Worth playing around with as an...

    Trip Report Melbourne

Noice. My most regular training route was from Nth Carlton or Brunswick via the Merri then over the Fairfield Boathouse Bridge to connect with the trails heading out the Eastern Freeway to Springvale Road and back. That was on 4x80 or 5x84 depending on which boots I was using and a decent...

    Trip Report Melbourne

I don't really remember to be honest, maybe 50Ks? Would be around that. I also skated to and from start and finish (City/Flemington Racecourse) from Brunswick. Yeah, I have 125mm on my old speed skate boots and the roll is fantastic. They are not exactly nimble turners though!!!

    Trip Report Melbourne

Great Melbourne Ride many moons ago. My skating club rolled it as a nice disciplined peleton. Nobody complained and it was a real hoot.

    Trip Report Melbourne

I could post some short vids of my daughter doing some bridges and hills here in Hobart but I don't think she'd give me permission!!!

Smashing stuff. Thanks @Majikthise for the link to this. Love the speed skating, aerodynamic stance. I'm prone to a bit of that myself. Even when I'm twizzling turns and transitions with the crew down here in Hobart you can always spot I'm a speed skater from my body position! Such...

    the BC chatter thread

I have seen several pics from trail runners, with 20-odd people in the frame. Count me out. I am not interested in a pilgrimage with every man and his dog. Bah humbug!

    Day to Day Tasmania Weather

I had two hours to fill in while my daughter earned a living. Figured I'd spend some of her inheritance and indulged myself.

    Day to Day Tasmania Weather

I'm not surprised. There was a bit of hail about. Thankfully I managed to find a cosy little pub selling cheeky brews by the beach at Kingston and settled in with a nice book. A fine way to spend the afternoon.

It was pretty brutal on the 30th. You wouldn't have wanted to hike that day anyway.

Yeah, once you hit the Overland it's a zoo. Lovely pics Mr. When were you in Freycinet? I was there with one of my daughters Thu-Saturday just gone. It would be funny if we overlapped without knowing it! btw. I finally bit the bullet and ditched the walking boots for a pair of my trail...

Ben Lomond Ski Lift Company for sale

I looked at the ski cam on Lomond a couple of days after they'd finished running this year and they probably had some of the best conditions of the season. It's a fickle business.
