Strangely very humid and muggy in sydney for Aug. Feels like a storm brewing but nothing on the radar.
You should have hung around. Vis was poor until about 10.30 when it gradually improved. Clear by 11.30, occassional sun in cloud breaks & great by noon. Eyre & International POW stashes grew as the wind increased & remained sweet until I bailed around 3. No crowds all day - even Towers & Olympic were great. Wind blown off Olympic was also a treat.
Just drove up Hotham. Snowing lightly above about 1650m with snow covering the road up top. -1 up top, with some strong gusts.
Very small, hard to imagine anyone felt it? http://www.ga.gov.au/earthquakes/getQuakeDetails.do?quakeId=3997659
... Oh it's NSW!! Silly me. Default state if not given is .... NSW! Seriously how hard is it to provide the state - guys? Or the resort when giving an ob?
Busy day! Low cloud at Perisher already mentioned so won't go there. It cleared mid morning generally. All lifts were open so headed straight for Guthega where the runs were in superb condition, a little crusty early but that lasted a couple of runs. Cloud obscured views high up but you could get below it quick. Thought it may have turned to freezing fog for a bit with some accumulation on various areas - probably just condensation. From there over to the the Cow and interceptor for a bit. Snow was in excellent condition up too but slow at the base. Was worth it though, forgotten how much vertical is fitted in there. Zalis was in great shape - the snow was staying dry. Then back to mid-station for lunch and off to Mt P for Eyre. Extra wind blown up top gave it a slight edge over interceptor, but only just. The wind was bad by now. I planned only a couple more runs on Mt P then back to the skitube to head home. Unfortunately going down Mt P under the Chair a ski caught something on an icy patch - dunno what exactly. Front of my right ski caught and flicked to my left. Left ski released by not the right which overstretched the calf muscle - knew instantly it was damaged but not sure what weight I could get on it. Fortunately just enough to carefully get down Mt P and myself back to FV. But can't place any weight on the toes and it isnt easy to walk. Am getting myself home though.
Relax mate. He gave the location. Most people would have thought of both unless their Victorian blinkers were on. Probably not many headlands to collapse at the Victorian Avalon either?
Canberra was November like this morning... Odd. The mountains are being caught between weak troughs and weak highs. It's not cold. It's 21 degrees inside and I haven't fired the heater.
All cool, I observe that 'our' Avalon has a coastal reserve and a pointy bit but nothing like the fancy headland in NSW. Back to subject, I observed some heavy showers on the drive from Buller to Melbourne. 11c in CBD at 10 pm - not all the cold for August. Another damp one for the Big Bull.
Rain and strong wind at Ngarigo campsite. Wind gusts have been up around 60-70km/h here. The roar across the valley is like camping next to pipeline on a maxing swell

Yesterday was a day of all sorts at Thredbo with snow up high holding together nicely and snow down low a bit sloppy and heavy going but fun. Guided some beginners down from Kareela Hut at about 4pm (despite the day being very warm, it was freezing there by about 3pm) and the cover had become quite firm (icy) already. It took half an hour but they managed it well considering. Still in bed looking at the mountain and it looks damp and windy. Not in a rush to get out this morning.
I second that. Sitting in the car park having breakfast. -1 deg according to the car but a mix of rain and sago falling. Combining that with wind hold and Saturday crowd and I'm thinking I'll bail.
Damaging winds here at Island Bend NSW last night. Still gusting badly and visibility up at Blue Cow looks aweful. Back to bed 4 me!
Steady drizzle this morning at Hotham. Loads of rime everywhere, it looks like the remnant of an ice storm. Strong winds, only lifts running are Big D, Playground, Blie Ribbon and Heavenly. To make things even better my Oakley goggles (bought at the turn of the century) broke. If anyone can recommend a good on mountain shop, PM me
I observe wetness, fog and wind at Hotham. A few runs at blue ribbon ,ok. I observe swindlers bar is busy and I'm enjoying that more at the moment.
Wet and busy at FF, if you're at Thredbo and haven't booked a lesson like I have, I'd hit the après instead. GH Mumm will be throwing an awesome free Top 2 Bottom afterparty from 5pm today at The Alpine- check it out
Dreary low cloud/drizzle at Table Top (near Albury). No wind and warm. No pants to be seen. I also observe I'm glad I have postponed my Thredbo day until tomorrow.
