I grew up there (in that photo), that's astounding. Indian Head is no more!!
Technically, not TA's seat
Mate I'm gobsmacked
cant believe how much has come off.
That's sandstone for ya.
The Ben and Mawson smashed overnight.
BoMs snow to 1400m (NSW) forecast has me scratching my head, it's been clear snow all day below 1700/1800m here at Thredbo.
It never had a chance and I thought I was reading things wrong during the week.
Lovely in the sun in jindy
It was never going to be great today.
Yes I'm at work today, and don't really mind, I think skiing Sun/Mon was going to be the winner out of this little time period.
Was one in july too so figure it was a cumulative thing.
I tested out a Marmot jacket from your work today....
All I can say is peachy
Actually its freekin awesome
Stay on topic
Guy I know did the Mt Barrow run in Tasmania today. Just outside of Launceston.
snowing on south perisher cams
edit: can't see much action after the last camera update.
That was last year
Nup 16th or 17th july this year.
Oh sorry, thought you were talking North Head. Was there one at Avalon a month ago?
Despite BOMs 1400m snow level I can confirm it was wet to the top @2000m on and off at Perisher today. It was below zero all day at the top.
BOM forecasting for the snowys has gone to the dogs in the last few years. Have had similar experiences to you. My basic weather understanding says one thing but the BOM say another. You think it must be beyond your ability and then your very own prediction comes true.
Bring back the detailed snowy mountains area forecast and piss off this automated locality stuff.
I ger better forecasts from here than the bom
Just makes you second guess shit. Not helpful if you're heading BC or have others heeding your advice...
Like I said the other day.
I think they have been put in a position over past decade or so where they are more covering their arse and putting out safety forecasts rather than actual forecasts / determined outcomes.edit - for "severe" or significant scale type weather.
Speaking from a NSW perspective I think the BOM are generally pretty good with the snow level predictions. I have no idea what happened today, but way, way off.
My two cents... Need a keyboard and clarity.
The weekend was never going to get 1400m, god knows what the BOM were looking at. I never look at their forecasts ever as they're never accurate at the local/micro level.
Coupla random images off the dog and bone from yesterday in Thredders.
From the top of Kosci.
Top of Basin, looking West towards Mt Kos. Alot of wind-scour up above 2k.
Lake George lit up nicely on Friday AM on the drive down.
...and for those of you playing at home, which federal minister back in 2014 remarked on the wind turbines of Lake George as; "utterly offensive" and "a blight on the landscape"?
That would be the one with a Bart simpson doona and a inability to cook sausages , albeit for a vegetarian Anabell Crabb.
Nice pics btw.
