Here's Buller this morning. Let's see if it ends up more or less white at the end of the period. Can't say that I'm confident!
The wind had a decent bite today but the snow said ... warm. A sky full of every which cloud including a sun bow
Swapping my usual caravan park digs at Lake Eucumbene for more salubrious accommodation at Perisher Valley. This morning....nada. No wind, no precip. But grey skies up high out westwards.
Raining heavily in Daylesford, 8 degrees fingers crossed it becomes the white stuff when it hits the mountains
From my source on the mountain at Buller: "I was going to send you a video of the r**n coming through but as I was taking the shot it changed to snow. Unfortunately it m*lted off some of what was there before it snowed." And two hours later (just now): "Unfortunately it only lasted a half hour and since then it has gone drippy w*t, but hopefully it'll be snow again soon. We got a solid inch but then it all melted and now it keeps varying between snow and r**n." Sounds like just a little more cold air needed (not hopeful) to help this system really make the difference for Victoria's last resort standing.
Snowing at Perisher, but 5 deg C. Small flakes. Edit: stopped now. Just a teaser. Clearing up. Fluffy clouds, definitely drifting in from the eastish.
Cold pool north of the alps now. Mount Ginini zero and Perisher 4 degrees. Canberra a chilly 7 while Cooma Airport 300m higher is 8.
Buller - yes, unfortunately it's marginal right now at Village level. We've had some good flurries (like right now) but we've also had a lot of "snizzle"
We must remember the temperature at resort level is not the one to worry about, what temp is it at 10000ft above . Snow can easily fall up to 7c at Perisher. Lets keep watching tonight, and hope no heavy rain and temp dropping below 2, its 4c now but no registered rain yet. Certainly moisture around. Interesting week ahead.
It's getting better IMO.... changing between sleet to snow, rather than rain to sleet. Though it isn't quite settling yet. Probably a slight net gain on the upper mountain.
Second last , Baw Baw lives !! It is cold and wet here in the Leper colony in plague town . I was out on the bicycle before lunch. I was thinking about skiing , what with this damp and wintery weather and all because SDS is setting in already !! :-0
Mt.Stirling is still open 7 days a week , AFAIK .Ditto for good old Mt. Buffalo . Half a metre of snow at both said locations would be useful.
Very hard to pick from the sat pic. Cold air out over western NSW but stationary NE flow over the alps as the cooler air further south seems to be running into that NE feed. Whatever happens its going to be moist and gluggy. Best skied after the next fall over the top.
Good point actually. When I last looked at their cams they had a paltry (50 meter by 15 meter by 20-40cm?) pile of snow at the bottom of hut roll. Seems like they've somehow managed to stack it up all the way to the top now. Impressed at their effort and ingenuity to get that done, especially with the conditions.
3 degrees and very very clear snow at Corin Forest, ACT. Apparently I don’t get to learn to ski today after all
it is flogging down here at Buller - my balcony rail suggests a few cm in the past 30 mins already. Radar looks good.
Looks like a bobcat. Probably for resurecting the Bourke St lift line with the snow from the slurpee machine.
