Observations 11-14th August Clipper Obs

Stayed home given the forecast and can hear the wind roaring up on the main range. Sometimes it does that - sounds like trains or a very busy freeway.

Winds seem to be at the higher elevations and have not dropped down to our elevation here at home.

Took a look on BoM AWS for Thredbo TS. Most recent update was a gust at 130 km/h. And it’s been consistently over 100 km/h since midnight.

EDIT: It’s lowered (7:45) and hit here @Moonbah 1100 ASL. Blowing decent.

Obs. Cruiser cam has the shakes this morning. Wind ratched up a notch or two as at sunrise in Kalkite. 130km/h gust at Top Station. Breezy.

Strangely, the winds at Perisher didn’t feel quite as strong today as yesterday. Unfortunately warm temps, strong winds caused the snow to turn extremely slow. Not slushy, just very slow. Ki d of conditions tou normally see late september.

Can confirm windy A/F at island bend last night, worst nights sleep I’ve had in a long time.

My non accurate weather station is currently reading 10 degrees outside and we just had a small bout of tiny hail.

Mt Williams at ~2.8C with ~15mm of precip falling below 4C after dropping from 8.6C. Similar story as the rain band passes through. Assuming this is the effect of heavy cloud after heating by the sun on a warm day or is it just the sliding front that will miss the alps? 3-4C at Mt William would eqaute well to a 1600m-1700m snowline at NSW in my head normally but not so convinced with this.

It skied decent most everywhere this morning. Even the ice was ok bar a few spots where it was boilerplate. Lower elevations however the ice was fine to turn. Windblown had dried out. Very pleasant!

Thankyou, I enjoyed that, both the images and music The images of the dry snow blowing over the ridge and dropping onto chance and kamo, reminds me why they are so good to ski in these conditions

Nice for it to finally snow again this afternoon at hotham (only a couple of light showers)

Good viewing watching them slowly move across the ranges from aus drift. Winter has really retreated to the highest / main ranges in the past 10 days or so
