Waist deep powder apparently, on at least two seperate days..
Where abouts at falls ? McKenzie?
Mt McKay area
SM I think we need to arrange the next one for a Tuesday night. It seemed to be busy at spots all last week.
LM not reporting any snow! What??? There was a lot. People today reporting that off the groomed parts the fresh snow was over knee deep. Mountain obviously has other distractions.
Fairly mild morning in the southern half of NSW this morning. Coldest recorded temperature appeared to be Glen Innes airport at -8.1.
Possibly not the spot for this post. Looks like possible mizzle for Buller today? Was hoping to catch some sun at Buller tomorrow with runs fully loaded now. Thinking it may be concrete tomorrow after a freeze overnight and I’m reading winds to pick up tomorrow. Anyone know when these winds will pick up? Don’t want to head up if most things on wind hold. Cheers
It sure did!
Pretty much the best touring day I've had in Aus yesterday. Bit firm up top in the exposed areas to the SW'ly and genuine light dry fluff in the sheltered aspects and down low. Shin to knee deep powder in the gladed trees.
Weather closed in around 2pm and started snowing again.
5cm overnight in Thredbo. It all helps
...and another 6cm at Hotham
making it 84cm for the week
Sorry, I'm stupid, that's what I meant...not sure where I got McKenzie from
Wish there was more steep like that you didn't have hike to at falls, they should add a lift or rope tow out there and a snow cat transfer
No. They shouldn’t. Work for it or don’t go.
They proposed that a decade back. Never got off the drawing board.
thank ****. last thing that joints needs is more punters trying to sleaze steep and deep powder lines.
I observed more than a couple of drops in the southern Blue Mountains saturday night, could have been as many as a few dozen drops! Mt Boyce recorded 0.2mm. Didn't even keep the dust down.
Saturday was warm dry windy and dusty, felt like a fire ban day. Sunday morning was cooler, but all campers reported a warm and mostly comfortable night at 700m (unfortunately very little character was built).
Lots of snow, cold temps, blue sky and sun, the magnificent pics... I love this country!!!
No rain, dying crops and animals, stressed farmers.....sometimes I hate this country.....
That second pic is simply magnificent
The funny thing, if you have the money, you didn't have to work for it as they did have a ski-doo BC day trip you could book. I would have to buy a spit board or snow shoes to get out there and would most likely have to go alone with out any BC knowledge.
If I was going to work for it, I would be more likely to do it near Hotham as there is a lot in the valley next door heading towards Feathertop. more an issue of having no real snow mates, mostly do solo trips these days as others have lost interest.
Also observe an extreme hankering to be up there at the moment.
Date range will be extended into extra play for the 14th, before the next system comes along.
I observed AXS was not too far off the money Saturday arvo
Moonbah this evening was warm and windless for a change......
Not sure when the next change is due (Wed?) but it feels a way off. Looking generally towards PV below.
Was a pretty sunset from across the lake too. No fire until after 5.
Sunny and mild in Caroline Springs....approx 15 deg with forecast of 18 deg C.
Currently a balmy 11c at 6:40pm in Jindy. No fire, no lap rug. Bit of wind building, but it’s not chilly.
Similar story in Melbourne town, a balmy 15c currently. Though with the wind the "it feels like" temp is currently 7.9
Having been in Melbourne for a week; I have noticed a step change increase in the solar energy from my last day on snow (5th August)
Only skiied for 1.5 hrs, much faster sunburn and the snow surface is visibly affected more by the sun. Well and truly into the back half of the season now :'(
Decent amount of wind in the Upper Yarra region with some big gusts. Air temp is mildish but wind chill is cold.
Team Bears will have to research this solar intensity....
Suppose that means UV is off the deck and has risen to low/moderate?
Weird season imo. Whilst it has dropped 3.5 degrees in the past hour here at Island Bend 1330m to a balmy 5.4 its just not right for this time of the year. Not even close. Heavy snow from a few days ago has completely gone!
Spring like conditions this arvo on the hill. Haven't even turned heater on at all today, weird.
I cant recall such a variable season in the last 10-20.
