The Table o Meter never lies!
Unless it’s a lee-side table..........
The clouds parted yesterday evening to reveal a dusting on Gable End, Mt Wellington, Ben Cruachan, and the lower foothills.
Following @POW_hungry warning just before this event is this worthy or a stand alone thread?
Lake Eucy webcam having a sleep in this morning but has since arisen, sun's out guns out. View eastwards:
and Westwards to Mt Cobrabald ~1520 m
And still a bit of luv happening in them thar hills:
A few obs (some in the PV thread) ......
IMO reports of snow conditions will vary widely depending on where folks headed first up this morning.
The single constant for all locations is the snow would have been significantly impacted by prevailing winds in some way. In some cases nice drifts that skied fine. Other areas wind packed with some sastrugi between drifts. Other areas take your pick- ice, hard to ski, deep etc.... Just depended on location and aspect.
Bottom of Mt P between Towers and Inter lift. This was before those lifts kicked off.
Olympic..... You had to look for drifts. Parts of Sun Valley held nice snow. Take a look at the second shot. Playing surface a bit wind impacted.
And just a pic from a distance that shows how much infill there has been.
The one constant is that there’s a lot of snow about that was not there 4 days ago! Would not be at all surprised if Snowy Hydro come up with an expected current snow depth total next Thursday around the 1.8 metre or higher. It was 1.27 last week.
Hard to see in photo, but starting to snow again. Not just wind blown.
Beautiful morning under interceptor... We were probably 20th up the lift. We ran it for about an hour thru the trees. As good as I've had in Australia
Then headed to Mt P. The north side was definitely preferable.
As you can see, nothing to see, all pretty boring, so stay away
I observe that Alpine NSW appears to be in a parallel universe to this Victorian.
Truly thing of beauty.
Good luck digging that out.
I swear I’m not crazy - there are currently very light snow flurries falling at my place in Queanbeyan! Obviously not settling on the ground or anything
Perisher has had about 5cm this Arvo..
Reset for tomorrow
Awesome day at Perisher. Been snowing lightly on and off most of the day, not enough to accumulate much but kept the cover fresh and with the cold temps it’s still skiing well on the groomed. Gee it got tracked out quickly though!
Couple of pics
Third day of coldies around Bega. Great system.
-2.8c at baw baw and streams of showers still barreling in at them atm. Good thing about this system is it stays super cold the whole way until it’s end!
Snow been settling on roofs again in North P this afternoon.
Just back from last run today. Snow was dry with tracks filling in. Mixture of wind blown/grapple/fresh.
Was a good afternoon.
Yes indeed, a good dusting up on the Wadbilliga this morning. Not quite worth a photo, but snow and a bit more than yesterday.
Still squeezing a little more out .......
The storm that just keeps on giving
Fizzer ... not
Any system that delivers 70 -90 cm's with these temps is never a fizzer.
Some people just call fizzer too early. They need to wait it out.
Ripped from a guy I follow on Strava. One word: B*stard.
The results at Hotham:
Managed a run down the road at Mt Canobolas this morning. Bumped into a few other desperates doing the same thing. Missed it by about 2 hours. Snow was soggy and a bit crusty at the same time.
That second shot is postcard worthy.
Very late season starter but looks great.
It was gorillas in the mist up there and rime on everything.
Baw Baw . No snow for you
Snow play time!?
I observe that I think the Aussie Alps under a deep, fresh cover of snow are still the most beautiful alps in the world
The colours, shapes and the way the light plays with the environment is truly unique.
Thanks all for the pics
Thats quite impressive for about 4-5 days of snow. A little like a lighter version of Snowmageddon #2, 2017, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Big drifts around the village back then and breaking snowgums.
I note this amongst the best transformation I’ve seen in BBaw in 35 years of visitation. To be fair, Bawbs does the dump well - out of season too!
Storm is finished, blue skies over the mountains today
Looks like a bluebird day coming up for those lucky enough to be there.
Big queues already at 7:19am
The storm is still lingering on the Mornington Peninsula and Baw Baw is still getting stuffed full of the good stuff.
It’s already all tracked out after yesterday but it looks like it will be a much nicer weather day today. Main range was still socked in all day yesterday. It’s going to be fully loaded out there after this and sets it up for an epic spring BC
Saturday was as good as Aus pow gets, incredible and face-shots galore with our skin track being covered back up on each ascent. Stoked!
Still snow on the tops of the Brindabellas this morning, and dams on properties full to the brim
Those tables have almost disappeared
It's not every year that kind of thing happens at Baw Baw.
Here are some other Vic. snow cam. shots from this morning. It is lamentable that we Victorians are not allowed to go and ski on all of this fresh deep dry snow.
It is torture !!
Baw Baw. AMAZING!
Whiskey flat : Prime for XC skiing.
Sun Valley at Falls Creek. From zero to hero.It looks like some perfunctory skidoo grooming has been done for locals at Falls Creek to XC ski on at Sun Valley.
Rover Chalet . Bogong High Plains.
TBJ at Mt. Stirling. XC skiing from the carpark to the summit.
Lake Mtn.: That railing in the photo has been buried under a deep drift. The whole net work of XC ski trails would be at an all time best for 2020.
Actually this sort of thing happens at Baw Baw nearly every winter. The uncertainty is how long will a base like that last at the little hill.
Some seasons it’s a blink and you’ll miss it event.
What , the picnic tables being buried?. Last season in 2019 was a big one for the whole Baw Baw plateau. The snowpack was deep and extensive. BC XC skiing anywhere up there was totally possible and fun above 1350 M..
I observe it’s an awesome day...
