trying hard to snow in jindy
Bucketing Wild Brumby.
**Edit - eased (misting) ski tube
Sunburst at Thredbo....
Occasional snow, occasional slush
Heavy wet snow/sleet falling on approach to East Jindabyne
Blue Cow has plenty of wind, snowing on and off with a brief burst of sun. About 2-3cm of fresh. Just starting to stick to the trees up top. Freedom Chair and some others on windhold with vis variable.
Dumping up the back of Jindy at 1100m asl
Just rain at my place near the lake. Jindy town is the centre of a snow donut, as usual
3.4C in Jindy
Fat flakes been falling for the last hour at the Brown Mtn and settling.
Thanks to the base and good conditions, this past week has revealed some of the best freestyle parks in Australian resort's history IMO. The media coming out of Thredbo's one hit wonder and Perisher's FV park this week have been mind blowing.
Good to see Marcus Kleveland in Aus - easily the best in the world if you ask me.
From earlier in the week:
Just had a very heavy sleet/sago/hail shower here in western TAS, 160m ASL. Temp dropped from 6 to 3 in 15 minutes
Where in Tas are you @Miffy ? Around Queenstown?
Snow in Cooma perhaps?
0.2C and precip registering in the last half hour.
Snowing really hard down to Thredbo Village now, about 1cm accumulated on the roofs. I also observe I haven't waited in a queue for Kosi once in my 10 runs since 8:30
Not sure why BoM are ballooning at 3am but the latest Melbourne sounding has some big DGZ values.
Looks great for oversized snow flakes down to around 700m (Vic) IMO.
All that hard work last week . . .
Pretty sure they do it 9am 3pm 9pm and 3am.
Twice a day that I know of. MEL 'usually' do it 2300hrs UTC (9am local) & 1100hrs UTC (9pm local).
I know they're not obliged to keep to those times but all stations seem to be at odd hours last night.
Yeah I remember that being the timing about a month or so ago. But two extra balloons is pretty nice. Not sure why though.
Mixed bag at Thredbo, started wet but conditions improving every minute.
Plenty of snow falling at present (Black Sallees).
Hero snow. Zero lift queues.
No place I'd rather be. Time to head back out.
Finish your beer first
@POW_hungry I'm in Rosebery, leaving this arvo if the road conditions allow
EDIT- Heavy sago again, much wetter this time round. Temp up to 6.5
Nice freshies early, a little heavy and bumpy now. Starting to clear up. Perisher.
snow showers at dp and Hotham.
5-8cm of fresh wet snow only.
I observe its a clear evening and a coolish 24C in São Paulo and I would much prefer to be on the new snow at Bull.
Hailing in Box Hill about half an hour ago. Now sun is coming out.
starting to clear
Whatever is left in this is probably most likely to happen at Thredbo, strong southerly element suiting it well going by cams
Jindy 5c and passing showers. Looks like a little bit is making it to the hills from here, however, concur from this angle Thredbo will do best on the tail end.
Tas shadow in play. 1020hPa over the alps now.
Bugger all left in this IMO.
Taken from FB:
Our day has been cut short by injury but was good while it lasted. Light and heavy snow showers on and off at PV all morning with everything from tiny graupel to big fat flakes. Fairly windy and low vis up high. Softer more spring like snow down low.
Heavy rain and hail just before cann river. Heading for perisher.
Geez, I was there this time last week and you couldn't find a spare table in/out of that joint!
Sunny at up Thredbo right now, about 5-10cm of snow has fallen today and it is nice and dry up high.
Snow quality getting better and better. Really nice at Guthega. Clearing nicely. I can see!
The trees are looking cold.
Looks like baw baw is getting the love today from the obs
Cams looking very nicely filled in for NSW!
Terrible, just bloody terrible.
They need one of those snow blowing machines that people have in their backyards in Canada.
Yeah it was nice this morning, creamy fresh and the rain affected stuff underneath didn't freeze solid which was good. Had fun today, tomorrow morning will be crunchy then hopefully slush bumps afternoon!
That grass looks 95% cured! Is it a particularly dry area? Grass is all bright green here.
I observe that at Perisher it wasn't all doom and gloom today, especially up higher and off the busy areas. Eyre and Sun Valley my picks of the afternoon. Just had to stop for a couple of these to help the legs settle - no lines, no rest!
Couple of clouds still lurking, but clearing quickly. Hope for a moderate freeze tonight, tomorrow will be great on the groomed runs until it softens.
It looks like the Monaro Hwy which is leeward of the Main Range and KNP so is largely rain shadowed.
The Southerly fetch this AM would've done wonders to bring moisture (and that threatening cloud) up and around the Vic Alps, hence why Thredbo tends do well in the South-Sou-Easterly bearing range.
Aways dead through winter. I don't have to mow my lawn for around 5-6 months a year.
So much snow. This is the creek at the bottom of Perisher.
Perisher quite good this afternoon up high after early slush firmed up the cover as the cold air moved in. Mix of hail, sago and snow this morning gave way to a sunny finish.
I'm anticipating greased concrete tomorrow morning giving way to slush after lunch meaning an early finish.
FB tells me the Monaro is closed north of Cooma, in both directions.
