You don't see Sydney airport this quiet very often.
Thats @Undies plane on the tarmac
Not all bad being in Race Club this morning probably a bit cold at 7am
Snowing down to 900m at Falls. Looking gert lush on our first lift up...
SAAB340's will do up 35kts x wind. Should be apples into OOM this AM.
Suns out (ish), still snotting and everyone slept in @ Thredbo by the looks of it.
few folks on the high noon cam. looks breezy up there.
Hmmm what to do from that lift? Stanleys with the garbage tip run out?
Thats some handy performance.
It will still be wing dipper coming in.
My Baw Baw looking better. 11cm overnight according to their website. No lifts spinning yesterday, two today + carpet. Their reporting this year has been terrible.
Probably working on the phrase, 'no news is good news' and trying to keep positive through a tough season for them. I don't blame them TBH. It's been a season of Westerly systems, maybe next year.
'tis the way the baw baw cookie crumbles, I am afraid.
They just used your photo on Sky Weather channel
From FB, Jenolan Caves area this morning
We got a few flakes st Mt Victoria about 8 this morning
Currently 2.7 with wind chill -4, snow forecast later today
Should see a dash more this arvo IMO.
I observe on this day 5 years ago I was experiencing a very nice pow day at Perisher - first runs down Kamikaze into 30cm of beautiful fluffy fresh stuff
I also Observe current weather conditions here in Sydney (Northern Beaches area):
Moderate W/NW wind just picked up significantly
Bright blue sunny skies
Classic August day really, one of those days you know it's dumping hard in the mountains
100kmph gusts in Wollongong.
Pretty over it
Not so bad down here. Pushing 70-75kph, which is still a bastard if you're riding into it like I was today!
Yeah, was pretty bumpy on approach, but El Capitano seemed to handle it no worries.
More concerning was sydney airport down to a single runway. Uber delays, and now I might miss my oversnow connection.
Plenty of snow on the hills north or Berridale on approach, and as we come towards Jindy all hills seem to be shrouded in snow showers. Good times.
Its probably more fun as a pilot, coming in sideways!
I was waving.
Took some video on approach. I think you can hear one of the passengers being a bit worried each time we dipped and dived. Good fun.
Road all clear to Jindy, and apparently all clear to Bullocks now too.
I observe rain clearing and blue skies in Canberra. I predict I'll be catching the tube up tmw rather than drive from these current observations.
Snow hats being worn by the Jindy hills.
Based on my 10 minute walk to work just now today would not be epic, that wind OMG. Tomorrow and Sunday on the other hand.
They live for that stuff
340's have a nose down approach as well. Just to make it feel extra odd.
My most fave corner in Australia
lakes not that windy
Nothing more fun than a bit of crosswind on finals!
That is such an epic corner - that view of the lake is priceless
Not that its relevant to the snow, but the winds have hit scary speed here now.
Odd gusts ..then still , then bang
Alpine way is feeling a bit alpine today.
Management , Staff issues , lack of maintenance ,police raids where do i start it's a mess up there ..All at the expense of punters and stakeholders
Cradle Mt looking well covered this morning. Should be good opportunity for some Tassie back country skiing this weekend
Now at the safety of my desk the brindy's look awesome, shrouded in cloud and must be snowing out there. Cloud is burning off to bluebird conditions over Canberra with the occasional bit of sago drifting over town - bueatiful (inside)
Patch yourself snow beside the road at spender Lea, and an Audi TT on the back of a tilt tray.
Last few years didn't seem so bad, problems were there but not as noticeable to punters. Definitely more evident this year.
Few showers in the eastern suburbs, looks like most of the moisture heading straight for Gippsland.
Where did Bullocks go?
Now cold in Melb wind blustery but not damaging.....
Was snowing lightly at Bullocks, nothing settling. Now in Perisher and it's snowing more heavily, but not dumping.
Its a pitty the train doesnt go all the way from Canberra to the Tube be awesome and also take heap of cars off the road.
Humming at Buller and Stirling according to Cams and Radar looks OMG! Juicy band sliding up the Otway coast and about to cross Port Phillip Bay.
Just dawned on me with these chronic westerlies, they probably ran reduced traffic this AM as many arrivals would only be able to take RWY25 (East To West). 40/50kts gust there this AM.
I observe a box a tissues and lotion on the dash. You sure you're going to the snow to ski/board mate?
Precip still gathering in the Mt William can.
Sydney airport, 59km/h wind 87km/h gust. That's Thredbo Top Station numbers!
Still snowing and sun shining at Island Bend. Guthega: still digging out the bottom of the Freedom Chair. Huge snowdrifts all over the place. Could not see ski tips going down Mother-in-law but when it clears its gunna be great fun. Pulled the pin to avoid unwanted accidents.
I observe the 500km Yarrawonga Radar loop is showing plenty left.
Proverbial puke at Island Bend now. Decent sized flakes but temp has risen, now -0.1 degrees. Noice!
Decided this am I'd get out of the water at Bells when the wind went onshore.
I just came in! SW now
