I observe some light snow flurries falling this morning. Perisher normally visible behind the hill in the background. Breezy, zero degrees and no traffic on the farm @chicski and @Principal Douglas. Saturdays in August definitely hectic after good snowfalls up the hill!!
FB tells me. Past dam wall. Then Stopped on Alpine way. Meanwhile just up the hill past the patch. Friends view.
From FB, Jenolan sunrise Nothing settled here o/n but snowy ridges across the valley on the Oberon Plateau this morning.
Lovely drive up to Hotham this morning. 20km in snowchains non-ideal but great views. Strong wind at the top with blowing snow and very cold. Plenty of blue sky though. Nice snow but crowds definitely a factor!
Very cool to see in that first shot the back side of Buffalo with plenty of snow on it off in the distance
From Millgrove I can see the snow on the trees just below the lifting fog I'd say around the 900m mark from Ben Cairn across Mt Donna Buang. I just took a quick drive through Warburton and you can see the snow on the trees from in town there.
I am observing the best snow for opening my 2017 season...can't wait to see what Stanley bowl looks like
I observe I'm looking forward to seeing all the pictures surface as the day progresses... IMO when the sun comes out, it'll be up there with some of the best snow you'll see in oz.
Check the Satellite pick. We have speckled pushing up the East Coast and towards New Caledonia. Lord Howe tops out at just over 400m. Would be interested to see obs from the top as the coldest air hits.
Beautiful ski day in Perisher this morning although windy. The snow was perfect and some lifts without too long a line. Weather closing in a bit now with clouds from Mount P direction but still plenty of sunshine.
Thought the same myself. Rain Thursday turning quckly to snow above 1700m followed by 60cm of dry snow equals high risk of Avalanche IMO. Dont head out unless you know how to dig a test pit and can read the loading properly. And dig multiple pits depending on the aspect. If one pit says go, it doesn't mean other aspects/runs are safe.
No trained eye here but looks like moisture has cleared out of Vicco according to BOM Radar,,, next system pushing through Sthn WA approaching Great Australian Bight.Sunny in Melb now, pretty calm but still cold.
A pano view from top of Karels Tbar an hour or so ago. I'm amazed that is more snow today than last Monday after all the rain on Tuesday. It's terrific
That little uphill skate at the top of Karels is really worth it with snow like that! GC Bowl would be special! Also down to Dead Horse Gap.
Seems fine...fair bit of stanley bowl is wind affected...that one side though..v nice. Hopefully no death crust forms overnight...north and west faces where the sun was on it have already crusted up. I suspect a cold night tonight.
Updated yesterday HERE, yesterday 18th FYI Kosci & Bogong looks at risk most: Looks like the MR has already shown it's teeth already in a recent post on their website:
I observe lots of punters having a good time at Corin Forest after a little bit of natural snow yesterday.
I hope that's wind chill! A lot of frozen diesels on Buller....stirling if not ...i might be staying another day haha
Jeans and ski boots... very 90's. Still remember my first week at Bogong Ski Club (I was in year 5) talking to one of the older members (early 20s) telling me how he never skied in anything else because the jeans were cool.... gotta love the cools rules of the old schoools
Here's a little vignette of how yesterday looked in the Oberon, NSW region. I was up there shooting landscapes for a job, but managed to shoot some video footage in between let me know if you want more or less of stuff like this...
Currently -6.7C on the weather station. That's a dang cold south system here at buller. Outside feels totally euro.
Lots of wide spread cold temps this morning under the influence of the high pressure system. Perisher -7.7, Thredbo -8.7 . Should keep the new snow nice and fresh. Looks like blue bird conditions, for the start of the day, will be a good one.
At least you're in good company with The Jesus and now Bill Callahan. Party at your place? I'm coming.
And thredbo takes the cake, 0.1 degree colder than hotham overnight. -8.9! Although thredbo bom is 108m higher
Nice work..would love to see some of your other work.. And no doubt a picture paints a thousand forum words...
Our first fine day since last Saturday, I will enjoy as it's our last day this trip. Charlotte's looks awesome Maybe another walk up Guthries rocks for the back bowls facing the morning sun We've had it all and it's just how it is in Oz Bob
