    i don't agree at all

i think most of the moisture is going to miss the nsw resorts as the system is moving much faster them first expected.

There may be some in it this afternoon but all the moisture will be gone tomorrow leaving, a cold but relatively stable air-mass.

i would say we'd be lucky to get 5-10cm out of it!!!!

This system will bring some low level now however will not be anywhere near what the Snowy Mtns received a few weeks ago. Yes its cold, but as mentioned it moves through very quickly, taking away a lot of the moisture with it.

Yes snow a decent chance for Bathurst and Orange, could snow as far as the NSW/QLD border.

It's only about 7 degrees in and around Melbourne at the moment. Bloody cold for the middle of the day, and in mid May [IMG]

The low is still sitting in Bass straight just to the SSE of Melb. As is moves further east it will spin the nice blob of rain that is currently sitting around Melb ATM and head it straight for the hills. With Orographic (sp*) lifting and the possibility of more heading in from the ESE if the low heads more NE than E, I still reckon a good fall of 30 - 50cm for Hotham Falls area. Not sure about NSW resorts. No one cares about them anyway.. [IMG]

There is already that much on the ground at Hotham by the looks and from some reports around Charlotes and higher up at Thredbo.

Well the BOM forecasts 11-20mm of precip for NSW today, so that sounds promising.

Yes its turned out to be much less precip in NSW resorts than hoped. 3pm summary 0.2mm Perisher, and the not much showing on the radar. Victorian resorts have had around 5-10cm and may yet get some more tonight.

I duuno what radar you guys are looking at but I am seeing heaps of moisture slowly making its way north. Weather it hits the NSW alps is another thing. The bulk of the moisture I reckon will hit NSW early Sunday morning.

The BOM Melbourne rain radar is showing a rather large amount of precipitation looks to be pushing up towards the mountains

the main band of moisture has not even hit the mainland yet - give it time. Have look at the animated sat pic to see what I mean.

OMG would you all calm down please!!

This is a major rain/cold event and the best is yet to come for the mountains. Just be patient, anything that is on the ground to date is still a bonus. The bulk of the precip and coldest temps are still to come. Whilst the cold air will result in drier air there is a ship load of precip headed straight at the hills which will get there before the coldest air arrives. Please look at the radar and sat pic and if you still are convinced that NSW will not get more of a sprinkle then you are looking at the wrong charts.

Its the middle of MAY!!!!- The long weekend is still 21 days away- Besides the the fact that even if the whole mountain is covered in snow they wont open up more then a few runs!!! i.e- Front Valley for Perisher and Friday Flat and Merrits for Thredbo. Any snow that falls this weekend is pure ground cooling snow unless of course we got a nice 40-50cm that would most likely stick around.

Agree with Luken, BH et al. BOM radar showing two nice bands heading straight towards the Alps and the Sat pic has the next front still looking good.

Do you ppl have any idea how improbable it is for these systems to eventuate, even now. They are all moving much faster then expected and look now to be dropping further south then predicted even a few hours ago. The moisture levels are also being consistently downgraded and most charts are indicating only between 5-10mm of precipitation tonight. like i said before NSW will be lucky to get between 5-10cm with vic doing a bit better.

wow I can't believe how much you are all blowing up about this system!!! As BH has said, It's only the middle of may and we are damn lucky to be seeing these kinds of systems coming through so early (mind you it would be a lot better to see them come through in about 2 months time!).
Anyway, the main thing is this system will drop some snow, it will keep the ground cool & possibly the best feature becoming visible on the models is once this system moves through a large high will become the dominant feature across SE australia and you know what that means? Snowmaking time baby, in a big way [IMG]
So, the worst case scenario from this system is unless we have a horrible rain even in the next 2 to 3 weeks (looking unlikely at this stage), we are all going to see at least a man made base on the ground for opening weekend! Who knows, if the follow up system comes through we may open a week early ???

i reckon a few people need to take a damn chill pill here. VIC resorts are going to have a great night. and 20mm+ and still falling in melbourne and surrounds is fantastic no matter if it's snowing up top or not.

You will see 15cms and more at the VIC resorts tomorrow morning.

Is this a bad thing-Its all good at this time of year!!! I still think we may see more then 5-10cm a huge band of Moisture has left Melbourne and is making a bee line for the resorts.

Bit more moisture coming up now, with a little precip over the Brindies at the moment. They're so perty with a dusting.

The Brindabella's sit at around 1000m-ASL. I think snow there tonight would be more then 50/50 chance. Hardly in the dreaming category.

The tallest peaks in the brindies exceed 1800m - From Mt Bimberi to Mt Ginni the two ridges are both higher than 1500m, there will be snow on the brindies tommorrow morning.
