omg another insignificant snowfall at selwyn, a snow field well known for its summer groomed slopes. Judging by the ski school sign i would say there wouldn't be more then 5-10cm on the ground, as predicted. mean while back at perisher the skies are clearing and if anything its getting warmer with no moisture to be seen of. Where did i hear that prediction earlier???????

    it's a w'inter wonderland' at thredders apparently^^ [IMG] [IMG]
    From the website:
"Thredbo has turned into a winter wonderland with fresh snowfalls yesterday covering the slopes with a fresh layer of snow. This is a great news for all of those skiers and riders out there with the 2008 Winter Opening Weekend just a few weeks away."

Blades of grass poking through the dusting and they call it a winter wonderland. Gumby families probably book opening weekend holidays expecting some skiing for their kiddies based on this kind of shi'ite and the resort makes a buck out of it. [IMG]

yer true that. The resorts will always through that crap at u and some ppl actually believe it lol. Thats why there has been so much expectation surrounding this system. when really there was never much in it.

check out friday flat does look like a winter wonderlad to me!!!!

    http://ski.com.au/snowcams/thredbo3.html

i wouldn't say blades of grass poking through but at best a couple of flakes on the ground.

It make me laugh all these people come on here every year. Saying oh theres no snow the opening weekend there will be grass skiing only etc.

Let me all give you a tip- There will be skiing on the long weekend it will be Friday flat and Merrits at Thredbo and chances are it will be mostly man made. Perisher will have Front Valley open. I cant remember when they opened more then the above on opening weekend.

    They didnt lie about it.

At 7am it was white and a winter wonderland and yes there was snow in the village!!!!

You obviosly need to get off the computer and get out to a place like Thredbo Village- Where the Village is actually below the snow level. Any snow in the Village is something to get excited about esepcially in Autumn!!!!

Does that make it an autumn wonderland?

Its always great to get snow in the village - even in the season. It gives some credence to ski in ski out - which is usuallt trudge in trudge out. Its gone for now though.

its pretty simple BH- by posting a statement like that on their website Thredbo create a false impression that 'winter is here' and snow is inevitable...book your ski holiday now! the reality is, Opening Wknd is NOT a certainty, and it's not accurate to suggest that Friday Flat WILL be open, Perisher will be running Front Valley etc.
2005 OW at Perisher they couldnt even get manmade on the ground, 2004 was pretty sad too. But parents rent stuff for their kids and walk them up a tiny patch of snow and push them down it and say they took the kids skiing.

GEtting off topic now though [IMG]

for starters opening weekend is a certainty- Maybe you have heard of a thing called snow making!!! There was certainly man made on the ground in 2005 even though we had a fair bit of rain on the Friday and Saturday and If I remember correctly we had snow on the Sunday night. 2004 Something very similar happened. But my point is there was snow and you could ski.

Well Mr Northern beaches- A lot of people cant afford to come down in peak season and why the hell should they pay roughly a thousand a day if all they are doing is having a bit of a play in the snow. Accommodation is cheap and plentiful on the long weekend lift tickets are discounted and just about every ski hire shop is offloading last years stock- So you can get some good prices and then test it out on some man made on front valley or Merrits.

-4c and snowing isnt winter like and isnt worthy of letting people know? and yeah snow is inevitable how much we get is another thing.

For those interested. It started snowing just after 8am on Saturday at Hotham. Continued on and off for the rest of the day. I'd estimate about 15cm in total.

Now that it's the 19th May, can we please put this thread to bed.

We can all argue about the next lot of snow when it comes.
