I observe great falls overnight, and plenty more to come on radar.
I observe the season must be almost over, and the enthusiasm on ski forums is waning . If this system had come through in June or July I would have been going through 6 pages of obs this morning, instead of a handful of posts. Over 20mm in the perisher guage at below freezing, and still falling. Should be a good day for the handful of people on the hill
To me this is often the most telling of all the snow reports

Perisher accumulating at ~4mm an hour (although winds are light-moderate there's probably some wind drift in there). Seems it's falling solidly.
Perhaps 8-10cm @Buller
I also observe a lot of people have packed up for summer. 4mm an hour is insane!! Damn Crows game this weekend
Good accumulation here at guthega.
Looking the goods
not me... car is already packed for tomorrow, 15th weekend in a row
Pity about the lifts!
Hotham cams look nice!
Thredbo reporting 20 cents up top, 10 cents in the village.
2.4mm in last halfa :o
Falls ~25 cents
The 850 /500 temps forecast where not really that low , on Axs ...
The low pressure was enough to swing it .
Other theories SaSurfa , Pow ??
Yr No on the money again.
And Link Rd closed again ...
On with the skins !
Lake Mountain looks good for the next weekend at least for tobogganing, maybe some skiing up high.
GFS & EC upper levels forecasted were pretty close to spot on IMO. The cut-off low stalled a bit longer over Western Vic, I think, but not to any detriment/gain to snowfall IMO. But you're right, I'll take 1000hPa over 1010hpa any day of the week.
Forecasted atmospheric cross-section from ~ Eildon to the Main Range, for this morning:
This model from earlier this morning when it really looked to have kicked on.
Wandering cold puddles, lets remember some times we can get lucky.
I think the models were showing enough cold, was just when it hit for me.
That chart there shows snow to about 1300m, and the thicknesses show similar.
I observe I wasn't really confident prolly given the mid September blues.
Mid July likely to have been a bit more foam
Yeah, less aligned with what GFS & EC had progged IMO. Where's the cut off? It's off the chart. Obs had the low tightly circulating right through Vic West to East which is exactly as progged by GFS & EC.
Placement is everything in a cut off scenario.
Great timing snow gods
Hotham claims 22cm.
pic as sent from dp this morning
Blardy cold and wet in Canberra.
I observe I am packing the car for a weekend of fun.
Very happy to see this snow at thredbo. Nicely timed as I was always down this weekend.
Bogong mushroom sighted! 17cm , still snowing
Fingers crossed! Hoping the wet lick at the end is minor! In any case, we are BACK ON! Might even make it to closing, Thredbo would have been gorn this weekend otherwise.
Oh, the pointy hat to the left is a garden gnome .....
Model does show it if you go to Aus , rather than just NSW/ACT.
wearing his beacon !
Yeah, you're right. I agree AXS 850 temps weren't exactly as cold as the others.
Wow! LM has snow. The resort closed for the winter 11 days ago.
Currently snowing in Glen Wills (Omeo Valley Hwy)
Settled on the hills around Jindy to about 1150m
Perisher looking at 2 foot storm... TM?
Windy but clear last night in Berridale when we set up the tent. Dropped off and switched to rain at some point in the wee hours. Steady rain cleared this morning.
Now in Jindy. Sunny and not too windy, but looks still cloudy up on the hills.
About to head up to Dead Horse Gap for some backcountry skiing. I packed dynafit mounted fat skis, expecting to need them for sodden slush, looks like I might need them for pow!
nice dump when most had written off the 2016 season...
snowing hard to pretty low levels in NSW....
some truth to the Adelaide Snow Correlation Factor!!!!!
do your mean "pour"
me too!! I observe fresh wax on my skis and a sickie tomorrow
Perisher now reporting 35cm in the last 24 hours
Good on Jane; she got this one right. LM looks to have more accumulation than BB, judging from the cams. Buller claiming 10cms. As for FC and beyond, the season is back on.
Backcountry should be nice
