As far as the SE of the continent goes, it's been years since we've had the soil moisture content that we have now (@Majikthise might have more input here):I observe only one small patch, on one morning of frost horing and only a couple of frosts this autumn (Spencer's creek valley), the ground has not cooled. The previous 2 years had frosts and horing from March onwards, this has been a very warm autumn in the mountains.
Additionally, through the process of latent heat exchange, the high humidity slows the cooling processes that typically exacerbate frost so will take some much cooler temps to get any decent frost out of this Autumn IMO.Moist soils conduct heat vertically more efficiently
than dry soils. During a sunny day, the surface of dry soils
warms more quickly by day and cools more quickly at night
(Russell 1973).
Where's the prediction thread ? Wednesday looks tasty.I observe this system snuck up on everyone, not even enough time to have a prediction thread without any warning the temps went south and life started getting exciting![]()

There's your answer.A little bit of fluff, not much to speak of really.
Only a thin band of cloud hugging the hills, surprised there is anything dropping.More accumulation, with a little hump appearing

That's a Perisher '10' right there.3-5cm of fluff.
It is…, and believe it or otherwise; very light windblown snow was just falling here at Moonbah. Lasted all of 3 minutes but grandkids thought it was cool to watch. And its sunny here but that cloudband is sitting not too far off. Happens occasionally. @Goanna noted the same a few paddocks away.Brrrr .... that sound of Alpine winds through the gum trees.
Winter is here

I observe that if I still owned horses they would require blankets todayI can see it falling in the air today![]()
I observed a nice tailwind to work this morningI observe that if I still owned horses they would require blankets today![]()
Looks like they've run the comb over the pow at Corin.I observe I may have to cancel the booking out of Corin Forest Resort instead of Thredbo end of June week for our mob... but I've been fooled before!
