Nice hail storm just passed here in Elwood.

Got a mates 30th starting in an hour, poor bloke has hired a spit and has no outdoor cover.
    Could be an interesting evening.

Had a 4 year olds party planned for today with jumping castle etc at my place.
Yeah....naaaah, pulled the pin early yesterday morning and got into a play centre as an alternative.
Lucky for my wife I'm across the weather ;)
Play centre reckons they had about 20 enquiries since I booked. Lucky!

Quickly dropped to 6C this afternoon in Canberra when a band of heavy showers came through.

Was dressed in shorts and t-shirt and definitely felt the temperature change.

Check out the rainfall figures for Baw Baw. There will be at least 50cm of snow up there. Probably more than the best day in winter.

I woke up at 5am to go into the melbs CBD and take some sunrise photos. Sadly the weather didn't play, it was a cool 8c and rainy / overcast.

Got the shot I wanted with a bit of creativity in photoshop.

You'd think it was mid August looking at all the cams this morning.

This is getting borderline ridiculous, Mother Nature is one cruel beast.

If all this snow came in mid to late August that has fallen over the last 3 weeks the season would have been a ripper and the reliable Olympic year would have lived on.

I'm blaming last year's record El Niño and its slower than predicted decay

What was her name? Lads happy with her?

In other news, looks like Baw Baw got another 10cm today maybe? It sure is great to see a return of the Southerly. Nail in the IOD coffin perhaps?

Moderate (random) shower passing through Eastern Subs (SYD) right now.

Himawari shows some good deepening of the Low in the Tasman. A beautiful upper level trough spanning from NZ to the Gulf of Carp.

Funny you should mention that, I was seriously looking at an attempt on Bartle Frere over the weekend, but the logistics couldn't be sorted out. So I did a trundle up one of the local hills instead.

Will definitely still be enough tomorrow. Was still firm under the trees, soft serve out in the sun. Staff were saying biggest dump they had had this year. Seemed to be at least 50 cm.
