Good rain band in bound (West) on Melbourne RN.
You just beat me to this. Was wondering why it was so quiet with incoming...
Perisher temps are dropping steadily... 0.4c @ 8am in the Valley, -2.1c up Top. National Radar loop not showing a lot of love for precipitation in NSW. Vic resorts looking like they could get some in the next couple of hours.
On another topic... Perisher aren't using the guns much even at sub-zero temps. I would have thought they'd be smashing it out on Blue Cow and Mt P by now to get things kicked off. Maybe tonight?
Dew Points are on the bubble - you get that with cloud-cover overnight like that on the sat pic...
The money maker as far as snowmaking goes is Wed to Monday. Cold and dry (ish) after tonight.
Temps staying low in the Dandenongs this morning. A breezy 5c near Emerald. Alot more promising, just wish there was a bit more moisture in this.
Looks to be snowing at buller
Raining at Sydney Airport.
Plenty of cloud cover on the way in.
What time's your flight. I observe I'm in a cab on my way.
Per usual rain all skirted around Melbourne City.
A cool 11 outside
Looks like its starting to snow lightly at Hotham. We need a new observation thread opened for this period.
This is the new thread?
Yep. Settling on Cedarwood.
yes (moved from winter BBQ)
Boating activities may have to be curtailed on Rocky Valley Dam late this arvo.
Buller looks good
Another big band moving through the Melbourne Metro region now, temp outside down to 10
Baw Baw getting a little touch up too
6mm so far and filling in nicely.
The Stirling Cam has also improved well today
LM has had some too. I can't show a pic as their webcams have been offline the whole season. Not happy Jan.
The snow in the foreground is from the snow factory, but the snow on the rooves and car park is what I'm looking at.
Isnt that the Aussie ski scene all over?
Eight-nine green/browns months to build/repair/update and much of the work seems to be crammed desperately into May - or even June? - when theres often snow on the ground - or mud & bogs!
A few flakes hitting the winscreen on my way to Island Bend (just as a young roo jumped on to the road!). A few more unpacking vehicle, but as soon as I settled down with a bevvie to enjoy the show it all abated! Feels a lot colder than the 4.3 degrees.
The can is out at Cedarwood, not sure it's really going to be needed... Looks like a few cm's on the table presently.
Baws should do good soon
looks like its fizzing out before nsw
It looks like multiple bands will start hitting in the next hour or so then continue all night. Crossing fingers for 10cm on the ground by tomorrow morning.
Grabbed a few logs in Jindy. Steady rain and 6c. Should be good above 1400m for a few flakes.
PV BOM though is showing zero precip. This has happened already this season with steady rain in Jindy and bone dry on the hill.
Unless you are coming for Interschools and or have your own accommodation and a season pass - I'd be very hesitant about booking anything for Schoolies at this point along with all the other costs. It's just a nightmare at Perisher when it's man made only in the holidays. There simply isn't enough runs to spread the people out onto and becomes dangerous IMO. Last year was fantastic as the entire resort was open - but most of 2017 and all of 2015 school holidays were beyond challenging.
Zero precipitation of any kind thus far at Island Bend after a couple of flakes earlier. Temps dropped nicely but have since risen again. Bugger.
Snowing lightly on the cruiser cam at DaBo.
I will be looking at the Toboggan area snow camera for Mt. BB tomorrow. Maybe Mt.St G. could be XC skiable on Thursday?
Something at least.....
Chucking down in Perisher now
A couple of hours of that would be a surprise and nice.
Touch and go. Precipitation has commenced at Island Bend but of the wrong variety. 2.7 degrees so getting marginal around Perisher slopes imo which tends to be 3-4 degrees colder with elevation. Come on baby, just another degree or two colder and we will have a winner?
Mizzle/light drizzle in CBR which is interesting with a BOM forecast of 5% chance
Perisher was -1.5 at 9 pm and -0.9 at 830 pm.
A light shower passing through southern Canberra at the moment.
Blue Cow pumping out the goods.
-1.0 at LM, but I can't see any evidence of the guns going. Just the factory.
Let’s see if I can forecast Hotham obs from Harrietville. At The Snowline weather station this morning...-2.5 & 5.7mm of rain in the last 24 so I’m tipping at least 6cm of cold dry goodness up top. It didn’t get above 6 yesterday in The Ville
Doesn't look like any material natural snowfall at Perisher, but the guns are going off.
Hocking saying 10+ at Hotham on the socials. That is not an official measurement.
Falls reporting 7cm.
Guns be pumping
Buller reporting 5cm, and that they are hoping to open more lifts with snowmaking.
He's also as tall as Sculllee
