Australia has a large land mass. If it snows then some of it will land on the ground. It just has to stay cold for a couple days after the snowfalls so that it doesn't melt. June is usually rock hopper ski month . I know that much.

If the resorts aren't 100% making snow in this period they're not in the game.
So much opp in the 18-22nd window.
    Cool and dry.

I remain wary of getting excited about a decent snow fall for next weekend or even during the rest of June in general :-( . I was taking pills to control my anticipation ;-P and now I am merely watching the surf report and the ski report. Once the snow finally arrive then surfing will take a back seat.
At least there are no locals clad in wet suits with attitude in a line up when one is BC XC skiing.

Someone was talking about a dry East Gippsland the other week, I think it was @Big_Red_60?

    Would you like 200-400mm?

    Falls centered on Bombala.

1.5-2 metres for the Alps in 5 days.
6.5 feet if you like that sort of thing.

Unfortunately with the tropical low from new GFS (that is supposed to fix the tropical bias), it is strongly swayed by this unrealistic proposition of a low.

CMC forecasts a similar cut-off low, but no moisture link.

But we can still dream

GFS needs to go to it's room and have a long hard look at itself.

    Snow biased aye!? lol
It's been green at the gills for the last 24 hours.

GFS off its head and that's a good thing. That scenario could produce copious amounts of snow but could just as easily land us in the warm wet wrap around off the Tasman Sea with fairly small changes in positioning - a fickle beast it would be. Think I'd prefer a fast moving south westerly producing 20-30cm of snow being ridged out to cold nights and good snowmaking to lay the base for better things to come closer to school holidays (acknowledging the lack of LWT action in our part of the world).

It’s not really your typical snow-bearing system either.

Think it’s more of a weird tropical bias that needs ironing out.

EC is stable, with just the Tuesday system and a very cold week after that.
Once we clear out the Tuesday remnants, snowmaking will be on full.

GFS 6z still has the moisture tap later on in the run, albeit a fair bit weaker.
Also introduces big fat high that will negate any real moisture, once it relaxes with the tropical influence.

    Never thought i'd say this.

FFS at least give us a big fat blocking high so the resorts can open some groomers on man made.

Long spells of unsettled non-snow bearing weather really do suck.

And you don't even have to drive hundreds of miles to catch a lift up so you can ride a bike down a big hill

Meanwhile, the guns will roar from Sunday night this week. Next weekend onwards should be ok for a warm up slide or beginners week/end. And even this week should be good enough for a budget holiday in the snow.

These are the temps for Perisher Valley to visualise:

That’s some deep cold, getting to -10 degrees on Thurs and Fri mornings.
7 days of full on snowmaking can repair and build quite a bit of snow.

Saturday is signalling something on EC.
Looks like another 5-10cm in some places ATM.

I observe improving weather - even some sun for drizzly Melbourne. Just to lighten the mood.

I also observe it's great snow to get one's kit in order ready for:

Next week is looking quite cold for Melbourne town on the current forecasts from EC. Days topping out at no more than 11 from Tuesday and nights between 3 and 5c all week. Can't recall the last time we had a run of such cold nights

I remain sceptical that there will be enough snow to XC ski /BC XC ski on until early July.
