Just beginning at Falls Creek:
Round 2. Lot's of cold air behind it. How much moisture though ?
That's the cold wet air seen on the airmass stream that was further south on that plot over lower se vic.
The story of Round 1 at Perisher. Lots of moisture. 50mm. But temperatures so marginal. Giving about 10cm of snot.
Sitting in the Perisher car park. Lightly snowing!
trying to upload photos but it’s not working.
Snowing lightly past mid Station. 15 cms seems about right at higher elevations.
It’s definitely coming down, wow.
Damn you NSW, good for them and so close but no cigar for VIC yet...that makes me sad
Don't see an occluded front too often in Oz.
We have a microscopically thin layer of a snow dusting Dingo Dell at Mt. Buffalo and a similar scene at Falls Creek. Most other VIC. resorts are still without snow.
Fat flakes are now falling on the Dinner Plain Poma run ......
This is Dan Andrews’ fault
Vic resorts all look the same to me....
Mild as in Sydney today btw. Does NOT feel like a day when it’s snowing five hours south. Lucky to get any snow at all in these cutoff systems imo
Round 2 just hitting the high perch on the western slopes ,strong NW wind 22kmph gusting to 34kmph , temp dropped 2.5 c in 15 minutes and now sits at 4.8c , heavy dark clouds wall to wall from the west - expect rain at any moment.
Now raining medium heavy big fat drops.
Nice snowy clouds over the range and a lot colder on Jindy North Shore
Hailing in Canberra.
Radar lighting up
Season starter only because it was going to start anyway . Still ............................... by the look of it for the rest of the day.
12c in Melbourne, dark and light rain. 14c cooler at Hotham and radar indicating increasing precipitation in Mountain Vic... nice weather
Not sure of the point of Perisher's snow stake if it's not going to get cleared at 9am. Anyone there care to dust it off?
A bit coming down at Buller now. Hope it keeps it up.
Bugger all wind registering at the resorts today. Currently in the 10-30km/h range.
Hotham is even registering as calm in the last hour.
A very rare thing for Aus resorts.
Hold the phone , we have flakes falling at Falls Ck., TBJ at Mt. Stirling ( 1250 M.) and Whiskey Plain on the Hotham to Dinner Plain XC ski trail.
I have included a May 27 2020 pic. of Whiskey Plain for a comparison.
My obs around PV for today. Snow level fell to about 1650..... Just a dusting. Rain elsewhere below that elevation. (Trip report in Perisher thread).
Estimates of 10-15 cms wet snow on the money. Front Valley base had a genuine 10 cms. Wet and icy but good for getting that base going again.
As you gained elevation the depth increased as did the snow quality. Much better up high. But with no base you were pushing 15 to 20 cms aside so care needed.
Snow started falling mid climb and I’d estimate a few cms over a couple of hours post 10:30 am. Snowing decently top of the quad.
25 cms on the small leeward drift but generally about 20 cms on the leeward side of the peaks.
Not a season starter across the resort but a handy fall that will benefit considerably from consolidation, cold nights and hopefully some snow making.
Snow is falling at Lake Mtn. 1370 M. ASL
And nice pukage at Thredders atm 2:30pm:-
Charlotte Pass looking stunning under a fresh coat of 10cm:
On the perisher app the stake cam is stuck at 8 am, on their website it had been cleaned and reset, current time 244pm
I observe dumpage on PV front valley cams, but nothing on the stake cam
Looks like it should be a snowy day on Monday. How cute.
6hrs obs profile for anyone interested.
1.6° C and sleeting now…BoM was forecasting > 1,100 m snow levels. Yeah, nah.
Down to –0.9° C @ Cabramurra with a hefty rainband incoming—should be snowing proper above 1,200 m in the state forest.
Upper floor clouds reaching out to those at ground floor level in the Yarra Valley this morning.
Rubicon ranges swathed in damp cloud but no snow to be seen
light rain this afternoon has been replaced by low misty clouds and cooler temperatures, after the day topped at 8C. Still no snow here but can’t complain spending a Sunday arvo like this in southern Vic ranges
Where's the wine?
Stay on topic
Another 10cents on the stake.
Glad to see the guns going. Every bit helps.
Perisher in cross hairs on radar.
Wouldn't be shocked to see a foot by this time tomorrow at this rate.
The Frog was on the money.... This time
Feels like a north mover unfortunately http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR492.loop.shtml#skip
Wash your mouth out, hasn't happened yet.
To be fair moisture today on the Main Range has way-over verified.
