Seems there is a bit more flakey stuff falling at the stake tonight
Snow about to start in the NTs.
Perisher showing about 7-8cm on the Snow Stake (since yesterday AM)
Yes 6.6 in the gauge .. Hope we get some more in the next couple of nights, guns going strong
Next round incoming. Baw Baw and Buller should do nicely from this round.
Baw Baw and Mt. Stirling's upper sections have received a dusting of snow overnight . The trees at The Bluff Spur on Mt. Stirling are looking very wintery, festooned with snow.
We need those bushes on the bottom right of the photo to be totally buried with snow and 10 cms at TBJ before a ski trip up there to Mt. Stirling is worth it.
Their website has a snow report from mid May 2020 .
So nobody has updated it even though the season is meant to be commencing today.
Lake Mtn. has a cm. or two of real snow as well but nothing worth driving up there with the op shop rock hoppers for.
It looks like it is snowing at Lake Mountain but not very much.
I’d say 2 or 3 cents at Lake Mtn which will cop the same southerly moisture blob as BBaw.
(I observe it’s not $58 Worth yet!)
I observe that I have a 15 cm on the website photos for all ski trails rule or I am not driving up there and paying AUD$58. I observe that the Mt. Margaret Gap routes to Keppel's hut via The Boundary Track and Lady Talbot road and up to The Boundary Hut ruins loop are now viable ,esp. because the winter gates are now locked to 4 x 4 traffic that would otherwise churn up the surface. The Team Leader has been busy working and clearing along the MVO locked Boundary track.
We just need 15 cms down to 1000 M.
Observe that Mt. Stirling has now updated its website ski trails bulletin and snow report today.
am i seeing the occasional flake on the Thredbo High Noon cam?
It is now snowing at Baw Baw. It looks like snow is falling at Lake Mtn. too.
Buller looks like it is gonna cop it in the next few hours.
That’s if the precip gets past Lake Mountain and such.
Looks like it’s in like for Hotham...fingers crossed!
Do these southerly systems often make it to the NSW resorts, or fizzle out by the time they get here?
Haha don’t get greedy NSW this is VIC’s time to shine...god we hope!
Yeah it’s not a great angle for them, but if it can cultivate west of the ranges and then head into the MR, it’s better. Not looking like that at this point. It also depends on the depth of falls.
Reality is I think it’s Victoria’s turn now, NSW got the goods over the past day or so.
Buller really starting to get going per IG.
It will fizzle - (bare) Vic resorts Are taking more than their share.
Baw Baw spreading out their man made pile now they’ve had a few cents of natural snow.
i went for a walk around the Mt Hotham area for a couple of hours today.
the snow under the summit chair was the best, proper coverage burying all the grass/etc with a bit of fresh pow on top. big d wasn't too bad, but thin in spots. central looked thin, hopefully 36 hours is enough for them to fill it in.
it was about -2 or -3 and lightly snowing in heavy cloud. but none of the snowmakers were going, no idea why they werent. perhaps all the water is currently being used in other areas.
Big D area
audi quattro area
the summit area
Excellent, let’s hope the weather reaches it and fills things in a bit while it’s cold enough. Good photos thank you
Now THAT is an observation post - thank you @Any !
The KNP has had its 24 hour serve. We Mexicans need some snow too.
It is now snowing quite a bit at LM as seen on the Lake Mountain web camera.
Maybe another centimetre at Baw Baw since lunchtime has fallen . It looks good and the snow is still falling a Lake Mtn. but it is cosmetic and not XC skiable yet.
It is Still snowing at Lake Mountain but without actual photos on their website of the ski trails I am not coughing up nearly 60 clams to rock hop up there.
The website now says they have a natural snow depth of 1 cm . Add 14cm more and I will be there.
Interesting that the BOM at PV is showing zero snowfall since 9:00 a.m.
My observations differ.....it was snowing lightly but consistently at noon on Mt P. Colder than yesterday and low visibility up top.
And, driving out at 2:00 pm the snow level had lowered as far down the road as Sponars Lodge. Skinned up for a look.
Top of the double chair.
The snow that fell overnight was in good shape. Not heavy however it’s going to be the base so the sooner it consolidates the better. Was too easy to push through to rocks etc.
Took several readings up top. The readings ranged from about 25 cms to 35 cms over a 20sq meter area. That was away from snowmaking.
A few more nights of solid snowmaking would maybe get that part of the mountain close to opening..
Lake Mountain cam showing a solid 10cm with more incoming on radar, mb a cheeky XC tomorrow
Do you think that is 10 cms?
[MOD EDIT: Partially Deleted Post]
Weather Obs only.
Stay on topic.
-2C at BB and radar suggests it should be coming down hard, but does not appear to be on cams. Looks like misty drizzle. Hope that changes overnight.
-0.7C on BoM AWS @ 4pm
Great stuff as always SM.. Where is that pole on Mt P?
We really need the low to focus in the Tasman.
That’s an Avi probe mate. I generally take full kit out and see days like today simply as training runs for when I start getting out onto the main range. May as well have the full kit when training at my age.
Regardless of others views about that I’m always interested to get a feel for actual snow depths and the layers. You can kind of sense that with the probe.
Still no soft drink can on the table o meter at Falls Creek but my guess is 5 cms minimum or so, perhaps 8 or even 10 cms?.
Compare this with 2100 hours on 22/6/20. I think It is snowing up there and there is more snow on the table o meter now.
for some reason i always imagine this table is under a covered verandah, i know its not by the obvious snow covering... but i cant shake that image.
Just looking back over my security cams in Jindy, it looks like flakes between 3.50am and 5.40am ish, will try and post some footage
All "pay to ski type " resorts should have a table o meter. Anything else is not really honest and real.
Yeah I know what you mean, I think it's because there is that pole on the left which looks like a post on a verandah.
I observe that it is definitely snowing on that Cedarwood Cam, but Buller Village cam has had nothing all evening?? Seems strange as the precip was heading in that direction...?
Yeah, I reckon 8cm or thereabouts, from memory. Not bad!
I see more snow in Perisher tonight , another 5-10? plus 1ft on Front valley with the snow making. Going well for the open.
I reckon this blob could make it. Feels like it’s hooking NW then East over the Alps. Time will tell. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR492.loop.shtml#skip
It is cold and raining in NE Melb. this evening. This must be falling as snow somewhere.
Very cold on the Jindy North Shore today, a bitter breeze a blowing. The range was socked in from about 10am, very wintery. Flurries of dampness wafting through.
That's just the usual pukage coming from Kirwan Apartments.
Mt Buller looking pretty
