It's a bit sad that that vid had only 600 views since January.
There's signed copies of the magazine photo of him being chaired in lodges
    all over Falls Creek.

Great footage. Shudder to see the extremely sparse safety precautions. Sadly, things didn't change all that much until well into the 80s.

What leather motorcycle helmets don't offer any protection? :)

Top movie, feels like the surf movies of the same era.

Hands up if these sorts of vids make you pine for the days before sport was a science and a business
    (Essendon supporters can excuse themselves)

Link from The Guardian article to official film of the '64 Olympics:

In 1964, Austria got no snow.
Austrian army manually places snow on racing pistes (from 3:45)
    And the manual piste preparation.
    Downhill course from 6:15.
There are another three parts to this film which can be found on YouTube.

I only found out about Ross Milne's death a couple of years ago, after I bought a 1964 ski magazine that had a review of the games.
There was 1/2 a sentence on it as an adjunct to comments on the state of the run - and this was an AUSTRALIAN ski magazine.

Recently I had the opportunity to digitise some VHS videos about the history of the modern Olympic games.
There is a section dedicated to the 1964 Innsbruck games. It refers to the lack of snow and shows the army being used to move snow. It also shows the use of snowguns to help cover the runs

I like the musical director's use of Fool On The Hill as the recurring theme.

    12.15 into the video.

A skier is lined up in the start gate. It's cold and windy. He looks apprehensive.

    Voiceover.
On the first day of practice in the 1964 Olympic Downhill course in Innsbruck, an unknown Australian racer was killed.

    This is his brother.

    Malcolm Milne.
