Frigid at Hotham this morning
Yes I observe unwarranted optimism with this system for the main Alps. NSW CH a nice sideshow.
Not sure what y’all were expecting outside 3-5cm?
My guess other websites lead people astray (MW calling +70cm etc).
Dem drunkcasts. Surely that was a computer error, I can’t even remember seeing anything remotely like 70cm on GFS.
Good falls in SE over last week (these are not including last nights falls)
I believe Jane forecasted ‘good’ snowfalls - I don’t think I have this On tape though. (7 Weather).
perhaps the early May fall raised expectations? Mine included.
Observe the snowiest May i can recall.
The interpretation of 'good' is wide open given the time of year. I reckon the alps did alright on the rainfall front (over the course of 2-3 days). To be fair, it's a cut-off cold pool and these are not a straight forward call when it comes to snowfall amounts.
Its cold and damp on Jindy North Shore. A light dusting on the range but snow line quite high.
Yes it has been with perhaps more on the way as the Sat loop shows an incoming cloudmass coming in from the ESE towards Merimbula, then Cooma. It may not make it pptn wise over Brown Mtn but a best case scenario would be a Pasha Bulker type ECL a la 2007. We got 3 ECL's in June that year and plenty of snow on the E slopes of the ski fields. We should know by sunset... W
The whole of this May will have been skiable in Oz.
Wonder if that's ever happened before?
...mmm. If snow falls on a mountain and ‘one’ doesn’t ski it was it skiable?
Sorry Mod; drifting from forecasts. Moving to philosophy...
PV Front Valley cam shows its pretty thin.
2012 was skiable from ANZAC day
It was around the time one of the updates went back to all in - and by the time it was a meme on MW and elsewhere - the forecast had already limped out again - but the virus was out and spreading quickly on the interwebs
I saw 7 day forecasts a short while ago suggesting Thgredbo could get up to 75cm over the week I'm presuming that was a bit too enthusiastic?
Is the ground cool yet?
It’s cool up the hill. Temps hovering around 0 at higher elevations. Lasts nights snow is being impacted by the heavy fog that is sitting over the mountain. It’s quite wet.
Looking out to the range from CP.
I skied this several days back. A net loss over the past week. Higher up is holding more.
A couple of shots up at Eyre.
I like the fact that some snow is holding up so optimistically the next week and into (the forecasted falls) at end of month should see it fill in nicely.
Strong winds don't seem to be eventuating in Sydney. A bit breezy, but far from strong.
Terrey Hills apparent temp didn't get above 10 degrees today.
All sitting offshore
OK for May, snow doesn't usually stay in May. I don't get excited til late June.
Yesterday the wandering cold pool was approaching NE Vic then decided to head back NW and fade once the SE wind started , so only 15 mm for the whole period at our place.
i observe the 12 hour loop a thing to behold.
it totally reeled off on tangent once it got over the water.
anyone can do the giffy thing ?
Sorry mate, I am outa position and on my phone. It’s a mission on a phone.
tech challenged not so olde carnt here .
Not sure if this will work @nfip
First two hours this morning were dead set cold. I was well and truelly rugged up but it was 0 degrees, and blowing and no sun. The wet slop i was playing with on thursday evening was a heap of frozen crystals this morning. Took some physical work around 9am to get some heat under the clothing. Then the sun broke through a little and helped. But was only 6 degrees at 1pm when i drove out of town. Sitting in front of the fire at home tonight.
I put a beanie on when wood cutting today, quite a peaceful scene, me on chainsaw in the mist, dogs gnawing on a roo frame
Cold n damp .... Fzzz
Strange overnight and this morning in Melbourne, 10 degrees with no wind, low cloud and a very fine drizzle. This system was certainly a disappointment as far as rainfall in the alps and eastern vic, but did deliver on the cold.
25-50mm in the last week for NE Alpine region. Most of which fell since Wednesday.
I'd hardly call it a disappointment.
Yes that was true, Must have been 10 days out hey... dreamcasting
