Didn't quite believe my home tech, but BOM verifies. Dropped 2 deg between 2-3pm in Melbourne, to around 8C now. Coldest of the day

The back end is now feeding as it collapses.

    It's a unique system.

As a weakening front hits the Alps, it feeds off the recirculate moisture so the heaviest dump is at the leading edge of the decay.

    Compressing moisture feeds the dump.

15cm to 25cm, depending on height.

That's the final dump. I'd be surprised if it pushes past Gong on the east seaboard... BUT Westside will hit Oberon. It's cold, it's packing but it's weakening winds.

rather than ask directly, I thought I would conduct extensive internet research on a "Slider" and this is the first one I came across. Does it sound right? -
A slider refers to a low pressure system that disrupts as it comes up against a high pressure block. This basically means that the low splits and sends some of its energy under the block, thus the term slider being used. These sliders can bring large snowfalls in places as the cold air remains in place.

    Is slider, is good.
Snow at TBJ at Mt.Stirling and the soft drink can on the table at Falls Ck. being buried are the best bits of news I could have!!.Even Lake Mtn. looks like the full BC XC skis might be needed if there is no grooming tomorrow. The ski season is here :).

Seeing is believing. @teckel usually has the good oil for LM.Last season in August 2019 it was nuking down like a snowmageddon disaster movie ;-P. The resort closed the road after lunch!!.The groomers gave up , the corduroy was buried in 30 minutes, and my friend on classic skinny PB skis was struggling whereas my BC XC PB skis had it sorted!

    Our alps runs valleys

Buller is the outlier. A stand alone peak.

Hotham runs the Ovens valley and loves the West to WSW.

Falls runs the Kiewa and it PEAKS on a cold NNW. does ok in a W to NW.

Perisher wins in anything above 80kph cause it's higher.

Thredbo needs a SE to fill the village BUT upper levels (1600m) and above love the wester just like perisher.

A NW slider means cold air sliding from NW to SE and filling the valleys. Maximize dump from system.

Well I have some light telemarks but my son will be on them. I’ll have skinny skis so hope they are grooming. It’s pretty much stopped and it’s only been 10-15 max, maybe a couple more between now and tomorrow. I can’t see the road not being open, and am hoping for the predicted grooming. Disasters aside, I’ll take pics.
One day I will go up mt Margaret, but not tomorrow.

Even though there is a lot of chatter that the dreaded R word will impact in the coming days and today / tonight will result in a possible loss, I am still enjoying observing some confetti and straw appearing on the cams tonight.

You need deep low snow cover to ski from the winter gate at Mt.Margaret gap to Keppel's hut and up to the Trails at LM.This system could present such a possibility.Forum members
have worked at keeping that route to LM open even under 30 cm of snow. The vegetation leans over the track when weighed down with snow.We have slashed it back with power tools.

I wouldn’t have really associated Hotham with a SSW wind IMO.

Definitely a good angle for Baw Baw and LM, if it isn’t in shadow of Tassie.

The classroom ruler on the Falls Creek Table o meter is saying its last goodbye. before it goes under....;-P.
This looks like 20 cm to me , at least by daybreak tomorrow. It is still totally p*ssing down here in the Ovens valley. It must be snowing somewhere , no doubt!

Falls doing very nicely over the system:

    Still looks like it’s going.

Buller pretty still now, over for now, potential for snow showers tomorrow.

Stormcast showing it drying out a bit before it gets to the CTs for anything substantial. Enough for a dusting but would love to be proved wrong!

Hotham defs favours NW. It’s largely in a shadow if the system is primarily SW

Yep, very wet and cold here in Myrtleford.I tried to convince my Nordic skiing friends to trust me on this one and come skiing tomorrow. They piked out for various reasons. Fools! :-0 .Falls Creek /BHP road tomorrow will be good for XC skiing, not just rock hopping.Maybe I can make it to Wallace's hut :).
