Hi Folks! An observations thread? I observe on cams snow is settling at Baw Baw and there are flakes on and off at Buller on village cam too. Unexpected? JCS
Really feels like winter has arrived here in NW Tassie. Maximum temp today of 13.1 at Devonport with a cool SSWesterly to make it feel really chilly. Plenty of snow on the Mawson cam.
Really cold this morning in sMelbourne with clear skis overnight, fine morning then the front arrived with freezing southerlies . Feels like winter
Dude said "looks like we're in for a bumper season". He might be the first of the year. Might've even trumped the Falls Creek PR machine
Just grabbed some logs from the wood shed. Can confirm light rain and 6c in Jindy. Should be snowing above about 1500m IMO
A light dusting overnight at Perisher looking at the cams. A nice and cold start to the morning too with the snow guns getting a workout on the front valley.
I'd give anything for that right now. Snow and winter is more than welcome to appear early June, up until that give me summer back.
Lies! It's just not landing in the BOM Perth AWS: Hail hits Perth's south, Mid West Perth Now-23 Apr. 2017
Hi. Boardies and T's here but only just. Early on could feel the freshness in the breeze but later on in the sun was still shhweet.
I so need a beach break before winter hits. Not sure I'll get it though. Was a beautiful day here today, cold, but sunny.
Do it. Pambula is your recommended go to... Heaven in that part of the world . IMO. The van park is worth considering ..very good. Cabins are schmick , clean (stayed there couple of months back) The water is still a lovely 20 'ish.
The cold dry weather is certainly making good snow making conditions almost six weeks out. Earliest I have seen it start was at 4 weeks but looking cold for the next two. Some big whales should be there to start the season. Let the countdown begin.
IMO it is a waste of money making snow now. Test systems, for sure. Make snow for the season now? Stupid.
CP is planning to start snow making from mid May for opening Jun 23. Appears they are aiming to have all of lower Gutheries rock garden filled in, putting them in the best position possible to open the whole resort from the get go. Meanwhile, Perisher looks to want to have all of FV open from June 10 - assuming they don't open on the Friday or better yet the weekend before like in 2012. It's a very good sign that they are able to make snow at current water temps from Guthega dam. That being a major problem with June 2014. A season that was only saved by 2 massive dumps in early July. As long as it does not piss down between now and QBWE - they should be able to make plenty of the white stuff. Temps look good at present. So with a bit of luck the June Ski Club will have the mountain mostly to themselves ahead of the kiddie invasion on July 1.
Suprised Charlotte has that much water to spare. Would think they would be hosing the T bar and chair to get that up and running as priority. I appreciate tho the rock garden is the major hurdle to get Guthries spinning. Rule of thumb they need a metre base IRC. ?
New multi-national takeover brings new chairperson demands, I suspect. When Vail Resorts bought Perisher they inherited a resort with Australian snow base problems... it 'ain't no problem when you have cash-money and limited only by dam levels. Meanwhile, I observe this system has left the station... 4-5 hours until we see the taps back orrrn.
