My fellow Buller devotees

Word from the hill is snowmaking is good to go, and as such, with a bit of luck we’ll see white on the ground in the near future!

With that in mind I thought id kick off a reports/discussion thread, as we will be hearing more and more news over the coming weeks im sure.

So here we go – post up your reports, rumours, photos, questions, concerns, observations, pre-trip excitement…anything season 09 related
wink.gif

Take this as my display of pre-season enthusiasm…if something more official/structured is being planned, give it the chop Carve

Hopefully this continues the tradition of my thread last year which went very well and didn't need to be moderated at all from memory

yes

i believe Holden has got on board, and in a brilliant marketing ploy, 6 captivas will attempt to tow the station to its new position

Very quiet up there last weekend. It got very cold on Saturday night, but not enough wet stuff around to snow. It was also surprisingly still.

Moving those wheelie bins around? Damn i wish i was one...sorta.

Some cold conditions forecast after this front, so tonight all the way into the weekend. Then fine weather for another week, doesnt look like any snow forecast so i believe they would be taking a risk if they fired up the guns now. Long weekend is 2 weeks away, they can build a skiable* base on b street in 2-3 nights if they try hard enough and have the right conditions. At this point in the season they dont have anything to lose, the more snow they make the better.

* = Right conditions -5C and drier than a dead dingos donga.

We decided to head up today to collect our season passes and to go for a quick ski. Was snowing on and off all day (was some nice big fat flakes falling occassionaly) and we found a few little jumps to play around on. Pics to come very soon!!

Just back from Buller, I guess there was around 20cms on the ground
and still falling, it started around the same time the official opening was
announced in the square Saturday arvo around 16:00.

A great start

Having read a few of the comments above, I might sound like a complete snow snob, but I am baffled at peoples desire/optimism about wanting to ski in early season snow conditions.

I am actually amazed people would pay $96 (according to Mt Buller's website - I can only assume they have an early season discount?) to "ski" on a 17cm base? I am assuming petrol aint cheap, plus the cost of repairing those core shots courtesy of those pesky rocks which have not been covered up by the base. Rudd's $900 is only going to go so far for very little return.

Whilst I admire the enthusiasm, I don't think there is really THAT much to be excited about??!!

I'm just waiting for the lifts to open. No point going if they arent open although Im thinking of heading up on the weekend with my 8 yo for her first time in the snow. Would probably head up towards the end of the week for a quick day if there were some lifts opening up
