Well now that there's a dusting on the ground I thought it was a good opportunity to kick off the main thread for the Buller Forum for the season.

As in previous years it's good to have a one-stop-shop for current conditions, trip reports, photos and any discussions, rumours & info that is Buller-related.

I'll keep the Summer thread going for a little while yet, to spare this one from the inevitable hijacking until the season starts.

Good stuff Carve

Very nice to see some white on the ground after the recent warm weather. It was chilly when I walked outside this morning - a great feeling

Might be worth keeping the Banter thread as a place for general wanchor talk/non-snow related drivel?

OK I've renamed the Summer thread to a generic Banter thread.

We'll see how it goes, I'm not going to be too anal about moderating this one if it gets hijacked unless there's some negative feedback.

Good to see snow on the ground! I found this on the Buller site which is pretty interesting about burnt hut area for this year:

Another significant project underway before the opening of the ski season is the installation of two carpet lifts at the popular Burnt Hut beginner ski area at Mt Buller. The 30 year old Burnt Hut triple chairlift lived up to its name in February when it was hit by lightning and extensively damaged from the resulting fire. The temporary carpet lifts will ensure this ideal ski area is kept open this season and a bigger and better replacement lift is planned for 2011

I heard a rumour, from a pretty reliable source, about a substantial snowmaking upgrade, but it's the kind of thing the Buller PR machine would be shouting from the rooftops so I'm not so sure.

hmmm, must be nearly time to reconnect my adsl and think about flicking a switch on the PlantthaLuvpole cam.

Anything technical that needs to be done PP or as long as the adsl is running and the power is on to the modem and cam will we be right?

+1 doesn't actually set up home until June 25th and not that likely we'll get there for QBWE at the moment, so hoping we can get it going.

Excelent.
It'll be good getting the rising end of the season on the Village cam this year.

let me know if you need someone to help, as in switch the power on.

Nice and sunning out this morning, the last little bit of snow near the
front door rained away over night. Another 18mm yesterday.

A fair sprinkle on Buller.
Nice to see the ground a little whiter.

Major Dump is more like road up mountian snowed in, not there quite yet.

correct...its a lovely drive up in those conditions.

heavy snow hitting the windscreen, tyres gliding through several inches of fresh, people farting around with chains in the dark, hapless tourists with incorrect chains stuck halfway up...

sounds a lot like grand final night 09

coming to Melbourne tonight via Yarra Glen had about 20 minutes added
using the truck bypass while the Melba through Yarra Glen is closed.

We came around the bend next to the winery with the tree that's lit up
on the opposite side of the road, (100km speed limit) only to find the traffic
STOPPED. Glad the brakes work well, it took about 20 minutes to get
to the corner about 500 metres down the road, which is now a roundabout.

There are automatic lights, that let about 9 cars go through the one lane
at a time, only the north bound traffic had only the odd car using there
period. We just sat there waiting for nothing most times.

BHS cam is up and running I see.

Out of focus a bit now.
Might clear itself (if heater related) or some moisture on the glass from the first warm up.

apparently the Burnt Hut Spur magic carpets were being installed yesterday

Will buller keep them long term or are they leased? New or extended crazy st carpets for when the new lift is built?

Are magic carpets for general use or only for ski school?

for both, it wont take any one with half a brain to keep away from a slow carpet
