I've always thought this could be a good thing.
For obvious places (as opposed to secret stashes).
The skiable snow level, river crossings - frozen gonads or snow bridges, boiler plate ice or other objective dangers.
Embedded large school / church / outdoor ed groups to avoid.
    Blah, blah.
Maybe if you go oot and aboot, when you get back post some info here ( or not)

Went up to Thredas yest. Rode mountain bike trail back to lake crackafat, track very gooood, just the section from the ranger station to Ngarigo to open (looks all finished bar one bridge - and man havent they spent some money on bridges).
Windy and looking a bit more wintery up here tis morn, hopefully will be on snow for first time later in week (its been a sad 15 year record for me this year - end of June and no sliding as yet.
    BRING ON WINTER

It is snowing in Jindy at 9.00AM today, just a fine layer on the ground from overnight. Given the sky is clear the snow looks like it has been blown out of the hills. So it would appear this storm is doing a good thing with dumping snow but it will be very windblown, that is very thin is some areas and deep, deep stashes in others. Wind lips and cornices will be forming early.

Hot topic right now seems to be the avalanche risk this weekend and in to next week. I don't see any reason to be really worried down low in the trees, but wind blown bowls would be another story...interested to hear from those with experience.

I dont think this first dump is to much of a worry I think its a higher possibility after the dump coming on the weekend which will pile ontop of this. But only in wind loaded sites

Mind you I just had a thought prior to this dump some parts of the main range would have been icy thin snow so with this ontop its always a risk.

It is not really that cold, at least at Perisher. The snow is nice but the ambient means it is not flowing, it is behaving as per a normal Oz pack, that is packing down gently and in some places being wind packed and with a crust. The depth does raise some avy concerns on steep and / or wind feed slopes. Might be interesting at Hotham and towards Feathertop, the Crags the West slopes into Albina and maybe about Kunama Bowl area.

Some reports from road trippin tuesday wednesday.

Cover everywhere above 1600m is as good as it gets.

Cover below 1600m is bloody good.

Dead Horse Gap was well covered by late Tuesday afternoon. Whilst i was having a pee at the turning circle two brumbies burst out of the SRH trail and made freshies down to the road before wandering along the road down to Bogong Creek.

The plough had only cleared one vehicle track on the alpine way past DHG. Made for some fun car freshies. In places the snow was as high as the steel guard rail and i couple a couple of car face shots powering through it.

On Wednesday morning (2am) big gust came through Jindy and i nearly rolled over in my swag. Got keen to see what had resulted so drove up to Perisher for a look. Looked great up there from Dainers Gap onwards.

    Cover at Sponars Chalet:

Then i drove up to home via SMH. There was snow in the fields along Middlingbank Road (Between Berridale and SMH).

About 20-40cm of snow at Delany's Hut. At this stage the freeze level was around 1600m and the snow was wet snot.

View from road to Eucumbene River just east of Kiandra. Good cover with solid drifts forming on the lee slopes. Was raining wednesday lunchtime so should freeze into a solid base for K2K travellers.

The first picture of the brumbies in the snow is great. Kind of surreal.

No but if id did no have to remove my bindings they were good to chuck in the bin at the end of the day. I ran into one of those invisible vertical snow drifts, double ejected then found one of the skis had folded in half. Possibly user error. As you or someone else pointed out back at 2012 SIC i have always locked the the piece when going down hill. Possibly why the ski was stressed and broke?

    Great Pics SB.

I was at Perisher yesterday (No camera) and judging from my off piste poaching efforts there is a complete base wherever you want to go on the Main Range.

Have fun, take care. I want a Delica but wife won't let me. Very capable everywhere but especially in snow - guess that's what they were made for. JP has fitted his out for shagging, surfing and skiing.

I observe... It's hard to observe the BC from anywhere in Thredbo because it's puking. There is snow to the Thredbo floor and I suspect you'd be able to skin straight up from DHG. Tues and Wed would be K2K days, if you can go. Darren, bring forward your trip!

Did an arvo DHG tree run with tc and Muzz skinning up from the upper car park. Amazing light powder, the best run of the day (great morning inbound at Thredbo) giggles all around. Skied across the road back to the van.

Yes, it was me. Giving TBP his push start on his virgin Wailers. Remember his cunnilingus on 'em later next day ?

Locking prevents toe release. Used on the climb.
Sounds like the heel released to prevent damage to you but not before preventing damage to your ski.
Don't think the locked toe contributed to the breakage.

A few years ago skinning out on the Razorback, I gave Belly the impression they were fiddles.
Forgot to lock mine on the climb .

Brian Wilson and I headed out to the Trig area today. There is tons of snow, it's deep no worries there, but with our moisture content it's far from light, still in most areas you can bury a rail (or edge for the skiers :) ) with only wind blown crust and ice on the most exposed ridges.
PS we had the whole place to ourselves :)

Rode the resort yesterday morning to get some downhill time first up then several laps of Avalanche Gully.
Didn't buy a pass today so continued with the solo laps until around 1.30 pm.
Didn't venture far. Didn't need to. (and I liked my lazy early season staircase)
Mate on tele's had equipment failure so decided to do some filming. He failed at that too :(
Stayed at JB Plain in the tent. Nice to have a fire in the (near full) hut Saturday/Sunday night to dry the gear.
    That's a luxury!
Cover really good down low too.

I caught my own aus record Brown around there on fly over a march easter back in 95'.
No skill at all, drifted a big dry down a glide into a pool as I couldn't fish it upstream access wise.
Lost sight of fly and begun retrieve to feel big weight. Arse-iest catch ever.
5 3/4 pound Brown (definite river fish, not a spawner)
