Share away Oz, the perisher Creek was a lot warmer in hindsight!
Anyone from Canberra up for a day trip tomorrow or Friday? Or will it be better Saturday with an extra freeze thaw cycle?
Conditions should be very skiable next weekend but there will be lines that look good but are in fact closed when the 150mm of snow without any base beneath on the rocks falls apart under a skier load. So consider any lines and chutes very carefully.
For example none of the chutes (the lines include The Scimitar, The Triple) in the back ground here are actually really skiable without good rock strikes despite what they may look like next weekend.
can anyone ask? very keen to read an extended dissertation on how best to pack the pack and people's view on must haves/leave at home etc??????
Looking at the cams (unfortunately) I don't think the walking / skinning / riding&skiing patterns will be much different to last weekend. And in many ways it will be worse because the majority of rideable slopes face S-to-E and these are unlikely to display good corn conditions til Sunday.
Or maybe I'm just justifying as I'm not going to go
I'm guessing a real small poo tube.
Hang half ya sh$%#t off the outside so it can get scrubbed off by passing trees
Take less stuff.
Take smaller stuff.
Take lighter stuff.
Fit more beer!
Pack heavier items low, and close to your body. Be young, so you can handle shivering a lot. When I was 18-20something, we used to go no mats. That would be grounds to call da choppa now. Did meet an older dude one year who had forgotten his mat, but had some bubblewrap in the car....
The Charlotte Pass Look Out Snow Cam pics from 1.30ish today.
that'll buy a few more days!!
The recent snow was a good one. About 150mm I reckon. Snow down to Ski Rider still. But it clearly was windy as usual. It may freshen up some slopes and will definitely increase the life of the snow pack.
Cheers Skifree, Im assuming the brown older stuff will ride better than the fresh white - going by pass experiences of spring freshies vs dusty crud
Yeah, but same 'patterns' as I was saying - thanks skifree awesome shots
Be-A-U-TIFUL mate, great shots. Thanks for posting.
poo tube on other side of pack!
A photo for the "Tubers" out there!
As promised here is a photo of @nthnbeachesguy taking a dip in the Perisher creek!
(told ya he was nuts!)
so how many months are we short now..
IMO learn how to overnight during the summer when conditions are easier to cope with. Experience will show you the difference between like to have and must have. Peeps have different values and abilities and so their trade-offs vary. My dear departed persnickety brother had to have things like a blow-up pillow, plastic sheet to lay in the tent vestibule and cotton pj's. He would probably have thought me mad to take a book.
Going out with experienced hikers will shorten your learning curve; at a min. buy an intro to hiking or use Google.
See, I make a pillow out of the sleeping bag stuffsac, clothes inside with my down jacket wrapped around. Remember that for every kilo of gear you dont carry, you can carry extra beer.
+1. Early in the trip go for the cool cotton effect by wrapping the spare T-shirt around that. Later in the trip ...
It's a mystery of the universe that the same stuff put in the same bag never feels the same.
I had a compact travel pillow when camping around africa.
My rolled up into a ball hoody was used more often than not!
A better day in CP, well at least by 4.30ish.
went out to TWK today, only really one decent line down subs ridge into Watsons left, Walters still has cover. Clubby and Lee still great. Townsend getting patchy
Ah, they were your tracks on the white snow off TWK down into Strzelecki Creek. I think you were still on TKW as I approached.
It certainly was Skifree, didnt manage to get far down the creek but the snow was good quality. Another skiier came up TWK behind you as well. Did you do something on the north side - was tempted
Went out to Watsons Crags for a look see and lunch. 3 guys ended up following me out and stopped for lunch somewhere that ways. I did look pretty hard at the North side but having dug myself out of there twice last Saturday gave it a miss with a plan to take big cruisey lines as I made way back to CP. Dropped a line left of your set and stopped in the creek. Over to the big upper valley South West of Twynam and dropped 2 lines as I zig zagged homeish. That was about it apart from slow line into Soil Con Creek to meet the yellow brick road, ski boots off and walk home. A total of 1050M up and down from the car park for the day.
Will there be any skiable lines still about this time next week?
I have a leave pass for Cup weekend, vaguely hoping there might be something remaining to slide on
Should be still lines thru Clubby shutes and Mt Lee for a while yet
Yep, another couple of weekends of snow in club lake and surrounds. If not then this weekend it will be a walk the whole way the following weekend.
Been there done that too many times over the years coming up from Vic. Here's to a healthy summer and another solid base for 2015.
We were thinking of going for a slide today, but given we still cannot see the hill from Jindy due to "fog" at 10AM it looks like we might find something else to do.
The Meaning of Life or The Holy Grail? Life of Brian was yesterday.
Blue sky, great vis on the cams ATM
Yesterday when I came down it was sunny up top, foggy by Perisher, drizzling by Berridale.
Go the grail IMO.
Club lake on the weekend just gone...
Yep cleared very quickly post 11ish, over the Hills 1st. Did a lap of Pallaibo in lieu of a movie.
Ive got video of me getting into the thredbo river just down from DHG in August!
Come on.... he's still above the plums!
I did do a MOTBC pose this year but occupational code of conduct prevents me posting as well as the fear of where it might end up and who might get excited by it.
I've got one of those....
too many clothes
It is burnt into my retina forever!
mirin calves bro
@Angus_McCrory that would have been a calender cover contender with just the boots, socks, beanie and perhaps a kilt.
Mexicans considering one last hurrah on the MR will be encouraged by the forecast minimums for Sun- Tues...best not to look at Saturday.
Everytime TW posts Ive gotta go and google the acronym, cheers and well said.
Angus where is the pic taken - I assume its South Is NZud somewhere, cheers
Found a photo of Telemarkers wives and girlfriends - pic says it all
Clearly splitboarders, they have all ended up in a pile.
