Just arrived today for 4 days. Looks great around the resort. Anyone recommend somewhere to get ski's tuned?

Do you want a grind our just wax & edge. Koki for a grind. wax & edge at fc hotel or central snowsports or yogi's, although I must say I haven't personally used any of these in many years.

Thanks Currawong. Just wax and edge needed. Will drop them in tomorrow afternoon after I blow the cobwebs out. Looking forward to a great day.

Anyone have any advice on order to ski the resort in the morning? What softens up first? Hopefully tomorrow's question is where does the most snow accumulate :)

Don't overthink it....Falls logically progresses you where you should be. Head to slopes that suit your ability (Green, Blue, Black) and keep moving if the snow is not to your liking. Snow condition is going to vary throughout the resort and within a run. As a mega multinational says 'Just Do It'. Sun is still low on the horizon at the moment, so if you chase what softens first you will also be heading to what is most sun affected since the last snowfall last Fri early morning. Also, our overnight temps are really low at the moment so any snowmaking should be dry and light.

I only had 2 days on the piste and as I was very rusty all I skied was Wombats and I still had a ball, halfway through day one i took my skis in for an edge file and wax and found I could actually turn afterwards. Only a few years since I had them done too :-{0>

I was, my old Karhu Lookouts, I wondered why I was sliding all over the place coming in from Pretty Valley. And having the edges back to being razors really does / did help. I had them done at Halleys and happy to pay Lee's boys to do it.
I hope to pull something a little easier to turn out of the quiver when I get back in a couple of days, the Betacarve Blues perhaps

A couple of leg burners down Rapunzels then back to the bowl, summit/maze till mid morning, over the back to ruined/fr fosters/st elmos. Short lunch. Eagles to the y's/expressway, few more down summit/maze then on to Fryer's:cheers:

Howdy guys, I'm up from Sunday arvo til Friday morning.

Any suggestions as to where a good place to eat lunch is? Usually I just ski back to the lodge, but I'm staying with friends this year so not entirely sure whether that's best or not. From memory the lodge is in the village bowl.

    Cheers

I really like the pizzas at the Last Hoot and the service is pretty good IMO. Easy to ski through the Village to any of the places there - Elk (express lunch specials), The Gully (3 Blue Ducks), Milch. Hot Dogs from The Pass pretty good for quick eat and run. Haven't been to Gateway this season but food typically pretty good and can ski in/ski out with Inter all go. BBQ lunch on the balcony at Falls Creek Motel always popular on sunny days. Called in quickly to Dickie Knees yesterday for the first time this season....burgers looked good but long wait for food (it was a Sunday). Cloud 9 will always be Cloud 9...nough said.

I kid you not, the last time I went to Falls the best lunch option was a little shack or caravan serving hot dogs with cheese and onion at the bottom of Lakeside (I think). Was a long time ago.

Hey @Edgecrusher, another vote for the hot dogs from The Pass - my favourite Falls Creek lunch! I also don't mind the cafe at the bottom of Scott's/Ruined Castle. Have also had the pizzas from Last Hoot and they are great too, though I'm not sure how fast they are for lunch (I've only been there for dinner - also I like a fast lunch when skiing, don't want to sit around all afternoon!). Not sure I've seen/heard of you taking a ski trip since I've been posting here so enjoy!

Cheers, will keep all these options in mind.

Yep, finally getting out this season, able to get a week off work. Skis will be tuned and waxed and ready to hit the groomers. Super excited :D

I've just been to Coles and stocked up on trail mix, M&M's and (thank Christ for them), gluten free muesli bars. Finding the gluten free options on mountain is the tough part!

Elk will be a great option for you....was chatting to Barry (proprietor and head chef at Elk) today and he was talking about how he had just been to supermarket to get his personal stock of gluten free bread, conversation then progressed to the fact that the majority of his menu is gluten free. I love gluten... ;)

Hey, thanks for this. I seriously appreciate it, and was stressing a bit over it. Half way up the lift, I don't want to be thinking about where the closest dunnies are.

Must say that most of our lunches are BYO....work lunch or thermos hot dogs. Having lunch somewhere is a family outing/event so quick in and out is not a priority. Weekly pizza lunch at Last Hoot is a regular for us. Though, waiting with friends yesterday at Dickie Knees for 30+mins for a bucket of chips each was frustrating to the max.

30+ mins - wow! That's terrible. It's always been quite quick when I've been in there, but maybe I've just had good luck with it?! I only ski with one other person so we're usually pretty fast.

I always have lunch (usually from the back of the car at lower car park) at around 11.30 as it's amazing how quiet the slopes are between 12 and 1 o'clock.

We usually ski the 12-13 time, typically for us it is Snow Club pickup of Attitude Dude at 12, family ski for a few runs then lunch. Not that crowds are really an issue anywhere this season with so much terrain open. :)

Stingray (bottom of FC Express, previously Tom Dick & Harry's)

Gully Cafe (aka 3 Blue Ducks, not to be confused with Gateway Cafe which is located at gully and used to be called Gully Snacks  )

have not tried Elk but would expect it to be good

I miss the 'old' Dicky Knees' ... that is before the dining area was reduced in size.

In those days, finding an empty table was never a problem

Milch and Gully and both have a nice 'drink in' cafe vibe....find Stingray to be too hit and miss.

maybe I've been lucky with Stingray, never had a bad coffee, but I've certainly waited a while

haven't actually had a coffee there, just don't seem to be in that neck of the woods at coffee time. food at Milch has varied from fabulous to very disappointing. I've heard good things this year so will try again

Pretty sure that they are not paying much to the 'towie' stationed in "REDLEGs", the International top hut. Drop in and say g'day to himif you ride to the top. ;)

Towie at the Lakeside unload is not a recent change....been there for as long as I can remember.

There is a long wait for coffee at Stingray. Mostly pretty good though. Have had a few bad ones.
Don't know about anyone else but we have almost always had a good coffee at Cloud 9. I was surprised.

Spent the last three days at Falls Creek, had a great time, conditions were very icy yesterday morning and while we had snow today it was very heavy and wet but better than millions of ice cubes.

One for the local tourers and XC folks.

How long would it take to skin from Windy Corner up Aitkens and across McKay Road to top of Eagle chair?

Would this be a viable BC access option if one didn't want to purchase a lift ticket?

    Not long.
Yes. It's a steady gradient while on the road. A bit steeper if you follow the skidoo track after crossing the aqueduct.
An alternative is to go round via the groomed trails to Sun Valley and then climb up Boomerang to the gate on Pretty Valley Rd.

I skied from windy to PV last Thursday and we followed the McKay road all the way. Remember thinking it would have been nice to take the Eagle chair as it was a bit of a slog from the lodge ( 1km from Windy). I didn't time it but it must be a good hour on skins, still very viable and good for your fitness, at least that's what we said!

I would be good if the Summit lift could be used to give access to the McKay XC loop and beyond.
