    Needs option:

"I drink heaps of caffeine on the drive down, then have two more coffees, bacon and egg rolls and pie for breakfast. Always think two shits at the trail head will get me through the day but 30 minutes into the day i need to spray a rock and smear with snow."

Perhaps they could reconfigure Rawson Pass to have the dunnies open in winter.

    Real Question.

With all the feral animals, shitting to their hearts content in the BC.

How much impact would the few BC skier make, if poo was buried?

    Cool.

    Didn't answer the question though.

What's the difference between feral animal poo. And human poo. Especially if the few humans, buried it.

And BTW I'm talking in the ground. Not in the snow.

Have fun burying your poo when there's 2 metres of snow.

See multiple choice #3. It is gross. Native animal poo, much much less gross and smaller, etc.
And they're allowed to do there because it's their place.

Thought of that after I typed it. I meant in the ground.

If there is 2 metres of snow. Obviously carried to lower snow levels. Then buried.

So the question is impact of human poo V feral poo.

True, but their poo is much, much less gross than ours. Besides, they haven't got thumbs so they can't carry out.

Visit any popular camping spot in the spring thaw. The poo freezes and does not degrade until it thaws. As the thaw proceeds all the poo melts out and lies where it was deposited. It is gross.

    LOL

Surely feral poo on the surface, is more gross than properly buried human poo.

I did say buried in the ground, not snow, after.

    Fair question.

People tend to find that other peoples' poo is revolting and makes them sick. This is a pretty strong evolutionary trait, heavily culturally reinforced.

Burying your turds in winter in the snow tends to simply freeze them, so that in Spring there is a range of undecomposed shitpiles at popular junctions and on the top of grass and bushes and stuff. Then, 'cause it's the alps and typically pretty cool weather, decomposition takes much longer than, say, in Sydney. Even burying in the soil up there is poor form as the soils are very thin, and grass/shrub growth really slow, so any damage / digging takes many, many years to repair. So, even though there's only 'a few' skiers there might be six of them somewhere for a week, which is probably forty to fifty turds in pretty much the same area.

Handily, these temperature factors make carting it out heaps easier than, again, say in Sydney. Cold frozen turds don't really smell so much, etc.

As people tend to pick surprisingly similar spots to shit (must be deeply evolutionary behaviour), you find them all just around the corner from nice spots for lunch, etc. Having come across a few of these spots years ago really impacted (boom tish) my own views of turd management. It's frikkin foul - imagine going for a walk with your kids and finding a small field of fifty turds all with little white sodden turd god prayer flags on top. ugghhh.

I'm looking at it from a health perspective.

Handling and transporting human waste is
a much greater health risk, than digging a hole and burying.

    I know about poo. LOL

Actually I think I just answered my own question. Human poo would contain seeds from plants growing outside the park.

Feral poo would only have local plant seeds.

Buried human poo, greatly increases the likely hood of spreading non-native plants.

Unless of course that feral eats a human. LOL

Handling frozen poo is better than stumbling across non-decomposed poo. Trust me on this (acknowledging your role as 'grand Poo-bah' on the board :) )

There's just no practical way to bury underground for most of one's time on the MR in winter.

well assuming that all day trippers over summer doing glacial walks route CP .Blue Lake.Carruthers etc RP and back via Seamans Hut are not carrying out their poo we have a poo crisis???

so maybe a port a loo some where on Main Range to manage this bio hazard....camouflaged low profile shit station..so at least the environment has first consideration and the poo goes out in a heli flight???

well the stupidity of having a toilet and it being not usable....

it should have been designed so drift build up is minimal and those little Rangers have a job to do
its called inspect the bloody dunny and see its operational so folk can dump in the can and not out in the eco sensitive areas..what is the problem up there in KNP....u hop on management skidoo and u take a shovel and u free up door walkway and anything else u need to do as the responsible land manager at Rawsons Pass....
its meant to be the knowledge nation pity Parks have been able to keep up with this...

maybe the reason Team Bears have a go at them as u say is because their management techniques are failing to deliver the goods.......so when the dudes feel like a crap on the glacial walks route they do just that at the moment somewhere up between Carruthers and Rawsons Pass ....this route is very popular over summer and you bet they crap all over up there when they cant make it on to Rawsons Pass Summer dunny complex...LOL

Summer use is a fuktonne bigger than winter in the area, it's a great idea but not perfect.

let the ferral pigs, horses, foxes ,wild cats and dogs and pigs cast their vote in relation to whether there is a crisis or not in KNP...its so good up there they have all moved in!!!!

And my god we nearly saw suburban Canberra burn because of our professional National Park Team Work....they just forgot to do anything like put the small fire out"she will be right" but unfortunately that was not the case!!! unproductive yes u are right on the money....
criticism is something that good Park Managers can handle....;)

so have I missed something in relation to ferral species.... oh yes the deer have now decided its the place to be also......:p

There's one option missing from the vote. Compulsory BC accredited nappies.

You'd only need one a week. Might improve the mountain man fragrance. :out:

The more evolved of the species has learnt to use tools that avoid the need for direct contact with poo. And carry materials that can store said poo so that direct contact with poo or poo odour does not occur.

Hypothetical. No one will bury it, not under x metres of snow and then find some diggable ground.
Then for those who know, the soft ground not up top but down by a watercourse ...

    Fair enough. Serious question then.

Do all the BC tour operators, ask patrons to collect and carry out their poo ? Or does the tour operator run around, closely following anyone assuming the squat position. Poo catcher ready.

And how do you phase it in the brochure if you do. "Must be prepared to carry poo in backpack."

    Tough sell isn't it ?
