Don't want to get too specific here but as a generalization, I wouldn't say the NSW South Coast is the place to be during summer time if you're after waves......!

Perhaps the article's intention was to lure the general public away from the over crowded NSW North Coast which as a general rule IMO would be more consistent during the summer months (thanks largely to the trades and the odd cyclone swell).

RE: Etiquette I'm also a strong believer in it and do not drop in as a general rule. Nothing worse than some mug ruining a great wave that you've waited patiently for.....

I hate crew that call you from way to deep, unless i'm a decent chance of making a wave (which is pretty often if i paddle for it) i'll call the next guy in down the line. The amount of times i've been burned from a guy calling sitting inside me is just painful but you can't go on the on slimmest chance they'll make cos it'll end up in a collision.

End of an era in Cronulla on Sunday with Jackson Surfboards closing down after 57 years.Lots of memories at the closing down party at the showroom/factory.

Its sad but people used to get their bikes hand made at the local bike shop once upon a time, slowly happening in the surf world.

Yeah!! You've got to be dialed in and hitting particular niche's to survive nowadays as a shaper. Cheap Chinese imports.

I live at Currumbin on the Gold Coast and just here in our little suburb we have Shapers, Burton, DMS, Firewire, D'arcy, Byrning Spears, Diverse, Maximum, Josh Taylor & Mt. Woodgee. I've probably missed a few. It's not an easy gig these days.

Yes same for me , hence why I rarely travel to the other side of town or even bother with Golfy when it's on.
More often just time challenged these days also.

Or the generally young crew that sit on the inside and call you out even though you've caught a clear outside peak and already done a cutback yet they think they have right of way. Ok if there is only 3 or 4 metres in it give it to the inside surfer (would be nice if some mals had this etiquette in mind) but there seems to be a whole generation of surfers that don't realise rule 1 is first on, rule 2 is inside surfer ;)

If they're inside and they f'ck up, they only get one chance.

I do love paddling blatant insiders onto the rocks.

    Can't stand the snakes.
The ones that want every far king wave and paddle straight up the inside every far king time....
it's then my tunnel viz and tinitus manifests..
Normally it's gentle-mans rules 'ish in this village and most of us (and their / our kids) known each other for many years.
Funny watching the kids surfing with their teachers / my mates after the bell has rung .LOL
btw the cicadas are making a racket down here today , sounds like summer !

I saw a very funny thing on one of our outer points (rights) last year.
A well known snake was doing his thing until another well known local boy had said to us that was enough.
Next set - snake takes off (after paddling up the inside of those in waiting) and then other boy sitting wider also takes off and goes left running straight into him!!!!
    ROFL
First time I've ever seen anyone go left out there.
Won't go into the detail of what happened thereafter, but it turned into a little war for a while. Nobody likes a snake.

    Yep, another one.

Saw an update this morning on this.

Reports indicating it wasn't a White - this time it was a Bull, which was apparently sited earlier in the day inside the river. Also supposed to be trialing an eco friendly net on that beach soon.....

My old man was doing the bay swim this morning and they had the chopper and rubber duckies clearing the water with a couple whites spotted, he said he was about 300m off the beach and they cleared everyone from the inside haha didn't even know they'd cleared the beach.

No good , was topic on our lips down at training this morning.
Ocean swimmers did their thing as usual.
Going to be an interesting summer patrolling the beaches , especially up North Coast.
Stay safe folks, but don't stop doing what we do.

Sounds like the couple of guys involved in the incidents up here aren't travelling well, heard the guy hit by lightning is on life support and can't breath for himself braindead and the young bloke bitten by the bull shark is in an induced comber after surgery hopefully he comes through ok.

    Wanna know something strange.
I keep having recurring nightmares about a white at my local...taking someone
To the point i'm not even sure its happened or not...
I can see it over and over .....

so many shark stories at the mo... the casual surf industry/hardware will take a battering.

Our young bloke has surfed heats with/against Sam at inter state comps over the last few years.
All of our family's thoughts go to him and his family for a speedy recovery and he's back in the water soon.

I can see a futures ad out of this (as long as the end result for Sam is 100%).
Fin and box look in perfect condition after being inside a noahs mouth!
On a personal level, I find it interesting that the shark has gone for the fin - just by chance?

Snagged a few on my local stretch this morning for the early. Couple of almost 3ft sets but mostly around 2-2+ - Banks are a bit funky right now. A lot of sand has been ripped out from out the front of the SLSC = big hole.
Need a solid swell to do some rearranging.....

Yeah, we hope Sam pulls through ok. Not good.

There are some spooked people up this way that's for sure. All of a sudden the boarder has become a physical barrier and we feel safer this side.

I bet that shark has a sore mouth after that bite. Fin to the roof of the mouth, ouch!

Looks like our run of fun spring weekends has come to an end here in Sydney. It's been a wet, miserable and onshore weekend with a few dirty waves on offer. Lots of lagoons opening up so hopefully we'll get a few new banks popping up in the coming weeks...

I managed two pretty good sessions at Palm Beach, not many in the water (certainly not on the bank I was on either day) and both days the waves rode much better than they had looked before I got into the water. Couple of feet or a bit bigger on occasional bomb sets and reasonable push in it. Water at Palm was even fairly clear-ish both days, despite a lot of heavy rain and various debris washed across the roads in a lot of places.

The on-shore and side-shore winds definitely didn't help but I have certainly surfed a lot worse conditions and had to share them with a lot more people so I would chalk up the weekend as a positive one for me. I even managed to convince one of my kids to come for a surf with me each morning, but perhaps it was the bribery of a promised bacon and egg roll rather than my over-selling of the likely surf conditions that did it!

Agreed there has been enough weather to give the banks a good reboot at a lot of spots, looking forward to seeing how the changes unfold.

I think I might nick name her Ugly Betty.

    6'0", 20 5/16 x 2 7/16 @ 32.17 ltrs.

I could have gone smaller but I'm old and tired and cranky and paranoid. That being said small wave boards should have some foam in them to get you moving.

    Thx .
Scoping a smallish summer type board for self.
Need change from the tired old mini mal.
tho it has it's moments when the youngsters get a bit too keen. ;)
Think I might need a bit more foam for mine 85 kg.

No that's plenty of foam to float 85kg. I'm 83kg and it's more than enough.

Nice, for some reason the waves go off the boil whenever a new board is acquired.

Hopefully there some quality soon to really test it! :)

I highly recommend something like this nfip - I ride the 5'11" Magic Carpet which is ideal for waist - head high waves and it's the best board I've ever ridden (taking into count that I haven't ridden that many boards) but it's so much fun and so fast. Check out his site. I'm 75KG and it's totally fine. The larger models would suit your weight range more. He also has "The Slayer" which is another good small wave board.

I surfed Gunna before work on Tuesday. Got out there at first light and it was a fun but inconsistent 2'. I haven't been out before or since unfortunately. We surely must be due for some decent surf soon.

Back in the late 80's I arrived in Brazil (by plane) after surfing in Peru / Ecuador.
My double board bag with 2 sticks inside never made it - vanished!!!!
After a number of days calling/visiting the airport etc., nothing, never to be seen again.
Some days later my Brazilian friend took me to a guy to make me a board...........................it was a young Mauricio Gill (his boards back then in Rio were called "GILL").

Well I got the new small wave board as you've all seen but Huey is taking the p!ss. Small is one thing but f'n non existent is another story altogether.
