Yep, same up here on the Sunny Coast. October/November blues............................
Water perfect for dip and crystal clear, just no waves.

I've put off going down the last two weekends as the next weekend always looked better, moving house the following weekend so going surfing this weekend regardless. Having said that lower east coast looks surfable this weekend, might still be a struggle for qld ;)

This time of year is always rubbish in Qld. Sometimes we take a few days off in November (out of desperation) if there is a sniff from the Sth and head down towards Yamba. Year before last we scored amazing waves (double overhead) down there at this time of year.

That was Manly & Bondi actually ;)
And agreed both looked surf able. Pretty rare occurrence to have 2 swells in the water like that and both beaches which face total opposite directions have clean, surf able waves

Occasionally you get an early season trade swell in Oct/Nov but yeah, generally speaking on average it's off season.

Interesting story there zimboo! I heard that he shaped for Aloha in the USA for a good 10+ years before coming out here to start his own gig...

Yes, he's certainly studied under some great shapers. He shaped a good board back then for a young guy (natural ability). The biggest issue back then in Brazil was being able to source quality blanks and glass so they could make a good board.

Anyone get wet today? I had a bit over an hour at Palm Beach this morning, looked pretty bad - lumpy mess with short-period 2-3' peaks popping up randomly - but actually surfed fairly ok. While I was in the water I saw some of the regulars pull up for a look and drive off. Glad I paddled out though; there were a lot more rideable waves than people surfing. Likely similar tomorrow too, the SE wind has been steady all day.

Nah , busy weekend in town didn't bother.
    Hit the backyard pool instead.
Back issues seem sorted now so back in the water srs training next week get proper fit for the summer biz.
i.e hauling punters out of the rips or even the 2 or 3 foot shoreys when panic sets in

    Don't know Gerriback lane?
    Where?
We've been here 20 years now - so still a blow in.
Use to spend a couple of weeks each year as a kid starting in the 70's - long drive from Sydney in the Kingswood back then.

So yeah, predictably I had a surf at Palm Beach again this morning, and just as predictably it was similar to (but somewhat worse than) yesterday morning. Mushy SE slop, no real shape or power and with the added bonus of lots of waves doubling-up and some backwash plus a few little rain showers.

Young guy on a fish on the next bank down from me did well - I would probably have benefited from a bit more foam underneath (and being 30+ years younger might have helped too), but I grovelled around for an hour or so and got a few ok waves, so I at least earned my cappuccino and banana bread afterwards.

    The new board curse.
Actually doing you a fave rather than it's pumping and tempted to play before it's cured.

I don't know if it really matters that much any more ?
They way modern boards get depressions it seems as if you only have to grab them too hard and there is a new one .

Been waay to long since I had a new board
But they all do seem very light-on in the glass dept. as viewed thru my admittedly old skool eyes.

The guy that makes boards for my young bloke has made me a couple of goodies.
2 x 6 oz on the deck. Old school hardness!!!!!
Sure it's a little heavier, but at my age it don't matter.
    No depressions.

You two have very little excuse.... both very close to the beach and no intolerable Sydney crows to deal with.

Very true. Resins have improved but boards are still best to let cure, not that I bother with letting them do so if there are waves. I had this glassed with 2 x 4oz plus a small carbon fibre pad on the deck and 4oz on the bottom. It'll depress quite easliy. I went with two fours as it is for small waves and the less weight the better.

I usually go a full 6oz and a 3/4 4oz on the deck & a 6oz on the bottom. They hold up much better to depressions but are a little heavier.

Interesting, I just get DP to do the 'medium' glassing, not sure what the stat's are on that, maybe I'll have to get into that for my next board :) - I've had a few dings and dimples but the oldest board is now 3 or so years old and generally it's held up well.

Incoming late season swell for Vic, check the Warrnambool report and forecast graph. Thursday will be the day for the sheltered points.

I've been getting out a few Arvos after work and a few mornings before work lately, (I love daylight savings) and it's been fairly average but it's hard not to enjoy the surf when it's so warm and not a howling cold wind.

It's been solid this last few days over on the MP. But looks like I won't make it west to enjoy the best of it.
