    Quite up here today.
Cyclone swell arrives Friday peaking at 10' on Saturday.
Just as well the Palm Beach ferry is a cat.

Could be a few novelty waves working over the weekend. Thinking Balmoral island lefts, Neilsen Park and maybe a couple of spots inside Pittwater might have a surfable wave....

Some absolutely huge waves coming through at the Eddie atm. I'm streaming it in the background at work. Those guys are nuts.

It's looking ok for a novelty wave in Westernport after work tonight or maybe west coast over the weekend.

Having a watch now - my money's on Shane Dorian to win it. He's been on fire this Hawaiian winter

    Whilst I agree.

I find when watching the big wave events, its all right place right time. Might be a bit of skill/local knowledge in placing yourself in the right spot.
All the blokes out there are freaks and none will pull back, so it might come down to whoever is lucky enough to have that bomb rise right where they are sitting.
Would be awesome to see one of the Aussies get it, TC or RCJ.

P.s. JJF is a freak. He literally can do it all.

Have lived here on the Southern Gold Coast for a couple of decades and through a cyclone and a few ex-cyclones, but I have never seen surf like the stuff pounding Coolangatta and Kirra today
    Ground is literally shaking

    And JJF wins the Eddie!!

    Shane finished a surprising 22nd

As you say Chowder, it's all about right place right time especially in these events, where the really big, clean, makeable waves are few and far between

JJF is an absolute freak. Awesome display of surfing today. I definitely agree re right place right time.

I surfed WP after work. Half of Melbourne was out at the pines. The other half at second reef. I'll sneak in another one early tomorrow too

Pretty solid down far south coast. Spent weekend at Eden. Board did not get wet.

Id call this one a bit more than a novelty wave but its still pretty fickle. Scored it with one other on Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours. If you know where it is just keep it to yourself!

And the third one was pretty epic on Sunday morning with 150m plus rides. Just couldn't get the zoom quite right. Again, don't state the location!

There would have been a lot bigger waves up north but the far south coast still had some quality on the weekend.

Scored winki at 2-3' with some bigger sets first thing yesterday.. was great fun... glassy calm before the breeze kicked in around lunch.

Hopefully i can score it a few more times over the winter.. i counted 53 out at winki and 60 at bells.. Crazy.

Wow, and I thought 30 in the water in my third photo was busy! Still managed a dozen waves in just over 90 mins, lots of sets coming through.

In the 1st two photos, on the better waves i was jumping off about 5 metres in front of the boat ramp.

    Painfully on family duties......
Few of my fave points and sand on reef combos would have been pumping.
Local rivermouth never got it together , to solid , wrong direction and sand didnt collaborate.
Saw some bombs tho , looked awesome if you could have got near them....
Careful here or you lose your head .

So did everyone get shacked over the past week or what?!! How good was the Goldie?!! Yeah I know the crowds were out of control but some of those 10-15 second or more barrels looked so perfect.....

Yet another epic weekend of waves to finish off Summer 2015/2016, what a Summer eh. December started out OK but finished on a high note. Then January & February pumped with swell after swell.

@Ted Harper will appreciate these 2 pics - mate of mine sent them to me as he was up the coast over the swell period:

Hayden's firing last Friday afternoon (someone in that)

And a NSW Mid North Coast point break reeling a few off:

I surfed my home stretch on Sunday which was pretty sick but solid, a good 4-5 feet+ on the sets but banks holding it well with some great waves.
Then surfed Lakes Beach on Central NSW coast yesterday, some good shaped 2-3 foot sets just myself then 2 friendly others paddled out. And today again some good shape 2-3 foot sets on my home stretch.

Had two sessions over the past weekend at South Palm Beach - fair bit of size on the sets and a lot of oomph in it, but the quality there was poor. Sunday was the better of the two but I only had an hour or so starting 6:30am because of needing to take my twins to soccer training; Saturday I had a longer session a bit later in the morning but the wind, crosschop and backwash conspired (with the unfortunately all-too-common Palm Beach straight-hand banks) for a less than great session.

Got a few both mornings though; sadly got dropped in by a gumby on the wave of the day on Sunday and had to exit a fair sized barrel out the front through the curtain, and got the expected drilling into the sand after going over the falls twice. No lasting damage and I even managed a polite discussion with said gumby as I paddled back out past him.

Crosswaves looked pretty good both mornings; realistically I should have paddled out there but I had arranged to surf with some regulars at Palm both mornings and didn't want to stand them up.

I can't make the pictures show, but the theatre of my mind is showing great images from that area over the weekend!

Some great shots in that article but those crowds are seriously out of control. How much longer before the nanny state that is Australia enforces surfing laws and there are police in the lineups charging people for dropping in?!!!

Was skiing in Canada and getting emails and FB images from home every day.

Lucky we had great snow, so it didn't hurt too much, plus the two months leading into this last swell has been epic. Goldy has been off it's tits this summer. 4.30am or earlier starts beat the crowd.

The boys getting towed have plenty of cred & probs decide among themselves if appropriate or not.
Tow seems to fit out there. IMO.
Round the corner is usually a paddle zone.

Can't believe how pissed off some people are getting on Swellnet about naming the location of that place. If you know that general area it doesn't take Einstein to work it out given the obvious rock platform and spectator viewing area, plus, it breaks what maybe 3 or 4 times a year like that max. It's a fickle slab that majority of people will never get to surf in the life time, nor would want to surf it for how dangerous and short the wave is. Yes it's very hollow and you're guaranteed a screamer of a barrel if you can make it, but there are longer and much better waves not far away IMO.

I believe it was pretty solid Belly. That generally sorts the crowd out. You would have needed a strong set of paddling arms just to get out there.

Let alone that most people who do not know it would not be bothered driving all that way to surf it on the off chance that it might break.... I missed it thinking it might have been RCR instead of BP.... and even though not a local, I have been visiting that stretch of coast for more than 40 years.

    Moar footage...

Even if you find it (not hard at all) you prolly wouldn't wanna surf either of them.
    I know I'm past it.
Even back in the day I'm not sure I would have tried.
