New breed are setting a whole new level aren't they!!!
Probs best that they don't run too many Eddie's - may fall into insignificance?

    I agree.
The significance being Waimea and Eddie.

What a weekend of fun waves!

Saturday morning was around 2-3+ feet with one particular mostly right hand sandbank offering some dredging makeable barrels. Unfortunately the word got out

Sunday however dawned sunny, offshore, slightly smaller but still the odd 3ft set every 20-30 minutes. Oh so clean, peaky and fun. A frames the length of the beach. Epic conditions for January!

I am buggered, but even now there's still waves to be had although it is starting to fill up with the high tide. If only I had the stamina to go out for another session.....so hard when you've got an 18 month old little fella who wakes up at 5am!

Anyone else score good waves this weekend? Ted Harper - Palmy good too?

I hope everyone got their fix on the east coast as it looks to go quiet this week.....

Couldn't find a decent bank on Saturday morning on the low tide (size, etc was good just nothing working properly along the beach), so paddled out for some dribblers at kiddie's corner.

On Sunday, went out at bend-in-the-road, nice offshore, good size but a LOT of kelp to paddle and ride through. Shared the peak I was on with only with a knee boarder and a beginner on a mal. Got a handful then the weed got to me too much, just too hard to bottom turn through it to set up the little barrels. Still good though!

What an insane start to the year for waves up here! Started the year with double overhead uncrowded Flat Rock and wrapped up this last week surfing the Alley breaking well beyond its usually standard. Perfect training for a Sumatran trip in May. Rest for a few days then it's back on later in the week for MOAR!

I've managed to surf 5 of the last 7 days. Capped off with an epic surf Sunday morning on the MP. Easily the best I've ever seen it break on the back beaches. It was peaky around 4' with some bigger sets. I've never seen so many guys get barrelled so easily down that way. I was probably the only person out that couldn't muster one.

Have also surfed the island and flinders a bit. But nothing worth writing home about.

Belly - where's your favourite South Coast NSW spot/area? :)

I do like Shellharbour and Ulladulla as good base towns for plenty of options north and south but it's been a while since I've been to either :(

Looks like more swell from a tasman low later this week and into next week - summer 2015/2016 just keeps on keeping on

@FourSquare04 generally I have my Lab in tow and I'm camping so I target the dog friendly beachies in reasonable distance to both good bush camping but also not too far from Queanbeyan. In summer I favour the Bawley to Ulladulla stretch as there are more NE friendly options relative to south of the bay (when South Broulee becomes a zoo, but awesome fun in shoulder seasons). In winter mostly camping at Moruya. But my partners parents recently retired to Tuross so the camping has become less frequent and really enjoying the zones a little further south. Also easier to leave the dog behind and surf the national parks ;)

Anyone get wet over the weekend? I only went for a quick swim yesterday as there were loads of bluey's in the water brought in from the SE/E onshores. There were waves but quality was lacking.

Yes, both mornings at Palm. The Northern Beaches junior SLSC chamnpionships were on and there were a _huge_ number of people there both days, particularly yesterday - to the extent I had to park at North Palm Beach at and walk all the way down to kiddies' corner (one of my twins came with me and only wanted to surf down there) even getting there at 7am!

No particular quality either day, ok size but bumpy and the water was pretty cloudy. A LOT of blue bottles (and weird circular blue jellyfish the size of 10c coins) on the beach between bend-in-the-road and the toilet block at the south end of Palm, but none at all south of that. Report from my eldest son from later in the day was that Avalon had a lot of bluebottles too, again I think mainly on the beach from Saturday afternoon/night rather than in the water. The Palm Beach mal club was having a theoretical contest yesterday at bend-in-the-road but up to when I went home about 9am it was more along the lines of BBQ setup and drinking coffee rather than any actual surfing.

Anyway, got wet twice; got maybe a dozen on Saturday, maybe 20 yesterday but they were short rides on gutless straight-ahead waves both mornings in kiddies' corner (I didn't even switch on the GPS tracker yesterday). Happy though how well my 15YO went on my eldest son's CI Pod board; aside from bodyboarding since he was little he's only really ridden surf school mini-mals before and tried (but failed) to ride my good boards, so the Pod again looks to be the trick for them making those breakthroughs in moving their surfing forward (vs throwing the kids on my old boards which are far too radical for them).

Good waves on the south coast. Met some mates from Sydney at Sandon for a surf yesterday. Havent surfed there for ages and forgot how hard the crowd is. Minded my own business and got a few gems but there was some ugly agro going on.

Checked a few other spots on the coal coast and it looked pretty good but didnt have time for a second surf.

No blue bottles down our way!

Sweet PPP, been wanting to make the drive up to check Sandon for a while, but then I get put off by the thought of the crowds relative to both my ability and the equivalent down south crowds ;)

Yep should make for some good viewing on Thursday AU time.

Meanwhile back home, it's back to smallish little summer waves this week but long range is looking promising for another possible cyclone / tropical low to develop off QLD next week - hopefully it continues for the Hurley Australian Open here in Manly soon!

I'm currently seeing from Monday onwards some nice 12 second period E/NE swell combined with S winds = perfect combo for the Manly stretch. Pity the comp doesn't start until 27th February

Apart from last Saturday at the island it's been an average week surf wise here in Vic. Onshore and sloppy.
I had a great surf a Woolamai last Saturday in the 3' range with awesome offshore winds. Followed by a grovel at Gunna in the late arvo. Surfed the back beaches early Sunday in 2-3' of surf. It was good fun but a little fat.
On Wednesday night I had a grovel at small and onshore Flinders and then another grovel last night at Gunna. I saw two swimmers assisted by surfers who were caught in a rip yesterday and one foreigner who was caught in the rip on his boogie board and did three laps. The surfers helped him out as well. All in the space of 10 minutes. It's not the greatest beach for swimming at unpatrolled. Especially at low tide with a swell running.

I'm trying to make the most if the daylight hours before the sun runs out and I become a weekend warrior again.

Bummer about the Eddie being called off, hopefully another swell in the next few weeks before the window closes.

Back home and the outlook is still pretty good. The weekend will be smallish but next week still looks promising for some long range goodness.....

If there are no contractions by Saturday morning I'm going surfing this weekend :)
By the time I get down the coast will target a latish surf in a NE friendly corner. Sun AM should be good though, the south coast does well in these NE wind swell events and winds will be good.

Some solid waves around cronulla this morning with sets up the northern end around 8ft and tapering down to 6ft at the point.Had a fun session at a southern cronulla reef break before the tide went low.Tomorrow is also looking good with the swell easing slightly, the northern banks should be firing early on the high tide.

Well wasn't yesterday afternoon's rise in S swell impressive?
    4pm Sydney buoy reading was 3.7m @ 15 seconds!!!
There were solid double to occasional triple overhead set waves at DY point yesterday afternoon / evening.
Some silly woman was in the pool and got washed out by a big set, had to be rescued by a couple of surfers, ambo's got her breathing again, very lucky!

@Ted Harper should be interesting to see what all this swell does for the banks. My stretch has been really good lately, hoping the banks hold up.
Anyone else see that we are in for yet another cyclone swell next week?!!! This summer has been ridiculously good, best I can remember for a very long time
