possibily a lightning strike, arson deliberate, arson undeliberate or fire spot. could have been burning for some time before it broke out.
DELWP not updating the fire status. Nothing's changed for 5 hrs, so it's disappeared off the CFA members website. Public website hasn't noted any changes for 6-8 hours.
DELWP has a funny counting scheme which means a 'resource' equates to a truck.. For instance, 10 slip-ons (utes) with a total of 20 personnel = 30 resources/trucks. Add in a few dozers and aircraft and you're soon up to 43. Always read DELWP figures with a big dose of salt.
So the fire is actually 11km west of the town, and south of the large HR burn. The fire map appears to have containment on the north and east sides along a track. It's 61ha, while the planned burn is 3300ha
Good on DSE for doing its controlled burns.Weather appears pretty suitable at moment for conducting good burns that run well. But it is still dry up that way and major bush fires cannot be ruled out even in middle March till we get some rains. The probability of major escapes from Contolled Burns is lower now...and the probability of rounding them up should that happen is more favouable. However if bushwalking around the Cobberas or enjoying the Snowy River Area one should be keeping up to date with all fire reports... This fire season is still ongoing....those ratings for bushfires are justifiably still in the "High" category...
It's interesting to note that the bushfire approx 19km.from Dargo iis of the order of 2,000ha. And the controlled burn around Wulgulmerang is approx 4,000ha. So the "bush fire"has reached proportions about half the area of the controlled burn? I am not sure if area of controlled burn means the portion burnt in the operation or whether it expresses the total area that will be complete after the successful operation with fire within initial control lines. teckel may be able to help here. With conditions favourable for burning operations it must involve many staff deployed each day to push ahead with schedule of burns utilising this very good weather window. So our lack of rain over the last month would have suited most of their operations. Anybody getting smoked out in East Gippsland like Bairnsdale or Cann River.
