So here we go. It all started over a year ago when I thought it'd be a good idea to organise girls trip to Japan in 2016. I've met @Ozgirl some time before that and we became great friends. Many things happened since then! - @Lady Mamabear joined in! - @Kimski decided to participate: we were a group of strangers, as she's never met us before! So she came to Perisher and spent a weekend with us. - Ozgirl met YK, and suddenly it was a 'mixed group' trip to Japan - We decided to go to Myoko for a week, then head off to Niseko (I am only going to Myoko, though, due to family/financial/leave commitments). - We started rather a lengthy discussion with @skichanger to address all our needs: accommodation in Chalet Myoko! - We found out @Sandy is staying at the same place at the same time! Thus, long, constructive conversations commenced (not just about weather ). - @hipo decided: if them, why not me? And he is coming as well! So, we call it 2016 miniSIC in Myoko. We are all flying out this Friday: all on different planes/at different times, and hopefully all meeting on Shinkansen on our way to Nagano/Myoko. We decided to hire a car to make it easier for our group. And we are ready to rock & roll! Have I forgotten anything?
Great idea Sara! And yes Mini-Sic it is! Does anyone know if there has been a gathering of more than 7 (it think its & with skichanger?) forum-ites is one place outside of Australia?
So looking forward to the TR and pics . Especially the debrief over bevs for our next trip mid Jan 17.
Nice summary Sara Some of us are seasoned travellers, and leaving after work on Friday. Others (okay, me) finish up work on Wednesday and have one day to buy extra clothes, get hair cut, pack etc I blame LMB for booking us into a posh restaurant in Niseko
hmmm - mine is not quite that long... (since cutting) However it does need a cut - but i like it long for braids with ski holidays! I just realised though I suggested YK get a hair cut before we go. He doesn't quite need it but it will be crazy unruly after 2 weeks if he doesn't!
Forget the snow, skiing etc far more important things to discuss. 1000 yen haircuts down near Super Komeri. Komeri is a hardware shop. And the clippers in the lodge have already been used twice this season. My games addict is now wearing a beanie instead of the natural affro.
Haircut booked for Wednesday, but I admit it - that's to cover the emerging grey bits! I'm a braids girl also. I don't think you can seriously not be if you have long hair! No way I'm wearing an air hostess cossie on the plane! 3 flights starting Thursday night ... It's comfort all the way! Sorry to disappoint! I have however pondered packing 'The Count' Onesie seeing as I've been doing a themed countdown in the BBQ. Will depend on available space in suitcase. @Kimski, you don't need a whole outfit. A half decent top over your jeans and Apres boots will do! Don't blame me for your shopping trip!! On the other hand I only have one pair of jeans that fit!!! I WILL be going shopping.
Guess what! I am also into braids when skiing: as many can confirm! Ha ha, photos will be following. Queens of Myoko with braids! Sandy, Hipo and YK have plenty to look forward to
And there I was getting ready (or so I thought) deciding on skis, range of waxes, pole baskets, water proofing..... and I read this thread. OMG I got it so wrong - now I have to find a onsie, get my hair done, probably even get my nails done. Can tell its a while since last OS ski trip.
The thing is, most of the time I don't worry too much about hair, clothes makeup etc. Then, just before a trip I always realise that I will be meeting new people and will be photographed and I have a sudden panic about looking presentable! I've never even had my nails done Plus at the moment it's a nice distraction from worrying about snow.
haha Nails are on my list to get done before we leave! kimski - stop worrying about the snow - it is what it is and you can't control it!
Wow!!! I'm thinking maybe I should get my nails done.... Perhaps bright like red, or maybe something more on the dark side??
No nails for me: have to have them short and clear for my work. However, Hipo made me think! I waxed/tuned/did the base work at the end of the season in Perisher. I know I should wax them now, but being sick for the last month I just couldn't do it. Will have them done in Myoko snowsport I think. Taking my camel bag with me. Pole baskets are what the are. I used to have powder baskets, but they are long gone. Not to fussed about it.
Kimski, look in the Japan weather threads. It's back to snow. No point ever worrying about the weather.
In all seriousness - i am starting to think about ski's... This is the first time I have ever had a quiver of some sort (ie have a choice!) Not sure if i should take the Salmon Lady's or my Line's - I love the Both but been leaning towards the Line's every ski day since i got them. (even thought they were only supposed to be for out of resort skiing...) However the only reason i am questioning taking them is that they have Touring bindings which i am not sure i will use (i think if we did need them i will be hiring the whole kit as i don't have skins for them yet) . So i am wondering in Powder that the touring bindings may be difficult to put pack on as there is more holes for snow to get stuck? What does Parliament think? You can say i am over thinking it - which means i will just take the Line's (i can't remember which ones they are.. opps)
Sh@t I didn't think of that! I have touring bindings only and no choice (except hiring super phats for powder days). But: I think touring bindings is ok: look at the BC guys ripping the powder: I am sure they all have touring? And yes, what does Parliament think? and @Angus_McCrory ?
The Salomon Ladies underfoot are around 85mm, right? How long? And were you going to Hokkaido after Myoko?
Yeah the Lady's are 161 and 85 under foot - I think i took them last time and they were fine. However not much fresh stuff, The Line's are 165 and 98 under foot - so tick all the boxes except for the bindings. And Yep Hokkaido the second week.
Yeah but how much do those guys fall (and their ski's come off?) Fighting touring bindings to put them back on in knee deep+ powder is not potentially very fun!
Found my Line ski's http://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/line-soulmate-98-womens.aspx These are the Lady's http://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/salomon-lady-womens.aspx
