I'm sure it does the job for you. It's a useful concept, but not a necessity IMO.

I'm currently in LMB's toasty apartment looking out into sideways winds and whiteout conditions. Think it will be a late start today. Luckily we have a well stocked fridge :D

Kamimura for dinner tonight. Can't wait

    I disagree,
when room is at a premium ..and ordered spot to store outerwear etc is needed.
I've seen houses etc that look like a chinese laundry.
A lot of Japanese places have a de facto drying room near the Genkan.
Some lodges i've been to have a sub basement thats been converted into a drying room.

brings back memories of the ski keller in Austria. Nothing was ever locked up, including the door. Had it's own side entrance, with access through to the aparthotel.

Day 2 of almost total hill closure.

We've been watching the lift status waiting for the quad or Gondie to go onto standby, but it's nearly 2pm and only the tiny base lifts have been running - Family, Ace Pair, Holiday and King 1.

I did get some practice using my Avie shovel though...

The car needed digging out to shift it to a cleared spot so the snow clearing could get the spot where it was parked on thier next pass.

The young 'uns have gone down to see what the queues are like for the baby lifts...we were considering swapping codes. I've got spare board gear to put Oz and YK on - I could either give them a lesson, or I could join them in the hilarity and put my skis on!!!

However our neighbours just told us the queue is heinous, people have taken 1.5hrs to do two short easy runs! THATS NUTS!

I'm really not sure why they are all still on hold...the sun is out, visibility is good and the wind is not bad at the base at all. Surely the Quad has run in worse! Just thankful we are running 50hr passes not Weeklys!

    Road closures...
@wandel's mates got dumped at Rusutsu yesterday - couldn't get through.
That's why we gave the family a lift from Kutchan to Hirafu - they'd been turned back and then tried the train.
I was going to try for the Gash Community Chair but the Niseko Now report said not to drive today, PB read it and sent me an explicit request not to try it (naw, he luvs me!)...

Yep, I can see the value of a drying room, especially when there are a big group of people. I have random hooks/knobs on walls and the backs of doors that do the job for me, they'd would work for up to two people, but any more would be a problem. People here all use the same system, and some also have coat stands.

Hi Princesses, sod about the wind hold. Hope dinner and the wiskey will make up for it a bit,
    Myoko Tueday:
Hasn't stopped snowing for two days.. So where's the van- here's the shovel, go find it:eek:
Bit of wind this morning, enough to put the Sugi top chair on hold but that still left much untracked groomers and staches to keep anyone busy all day. The groomers had pushed a lot of fresh to the sides of the runs making for creamy groomers boarded by waist to chest wall of fluff. A bit too bottomless in parts for the K2's to feel comfortable but great fun and experience ducking in off the groomers, a few turns and back out before sinking below visibility
ps. got crowded when anyone was within a 100 meters:D

Yes, not ideal about the closures but we've managed to make our own fun. Stay tuned for further details ...

Tomorrow and Thursday are forecast to much calmer so I'm determined to make the most of it and ski until my legs hurt for the last two days.

I have a lesson tomorrow morning and then I'll be exploring the mountain in the afternoon. For Thursday I'm not sure if I'll be sticking to Niseko or doing a day trip to Rusutsu or Kiroro. It's a hard life :D

Nice to hear your getting some fresh Hipo

Yep so what do you do after 2 days of lift closures?

    You turn Bi!!

LMB's totally jammed gear room came in handy and she kitted YK and I out with boards and boots and she pulled out ski's and boots and we all headed off to the Ace Family Chair, with Kimski on photog duties!

YK seemed to have blocked out the fact that i was on board the first day he meet me and was a bit cranky that I wasn't waiting for him! Opps

LMB just seemed to have re-enforced the reason she stuck with snowboarding for all these years.

But it was a great way to burn off some calories to make way for out Kamimura dinner this evening.

It was hilarious how foreign it felt going Bi!

Ozgirl is definitely the most likely to be truly Bi among us!

Young love - working their board turns together (nawwwwww!)

YK rocked the look, but he's definitely way more comfortable when he's not swinging both ways ;-)

    The concentration was intense!

I had heaps of fun, but good grief I'm a terrible skier! LOL

I yardsaled at the top (hilarious) as you can see by my snow covered hoodie. An I Ride Sideways hoodie at that!!! LOL

It's far too easy to get stuck in a bar here! FAR too easy! Lots of great snow folk to chat with, attentive barman refilling your drinks and giving out free shots :nerd:, and just a short stumble home.

    I should probably explain...

We started the morning bright and early, leaving the house by 7.30am to drop *K* at Kutchan Station bound for a sightseeing day in Sapporo. Then YK, Ozgirl and I went to Hanazono and prepared to wait for the lift to open. I had dumped my board with them for a few minutes (as had others grabbing coffees or having last chance loo breaks) but a group of British male skiers decided that orderly queueing wasn't thier thing and started weaving through people too polite to tell them how rude they were being.
Not Ozgirl! She put them in thier place, although they thought arguing the point was a good tactic. Shame for them that pretty much the whole lift line agreed with Oz and chimed in - this was where she told them they should've got up earlier! Rather than leave anything to chance I got back in the queue and board strapped on quick smart. The older female skier in front turned to me and offered for me to wedge my board in between her skis as she felt the lads were still likely to try and push through. LOL

    Then the lifts started turning.
The (small) crowds went left off Hana1 into Strawberries, but we went right. Straight down the piste. No one on it, ankle deep where groomed and knee deep on the sides. Totally untouched.
2nd run was to a deep and untracked Legend of Shinya. We did a few of those before we thought about pulling out our phones to get a few pics.

    Ozgirl

    YK

    LMB

Once that was tracked we moved into the trees skiers left of Shinya and found freshies and untouched open glades within the trees until we meet Wandel for lunch at 308.

After lunch we did more of the same but I bailed after the first post lunch run with quite strong pain in my hip flexor - getting OLD!

YK and Kim followed Wandel through gate 4 which proved a little tricky - a snow snake tripping Ozgirl up meant an uphill search for a ski buried under pow, and the young ones calling it a day also.

Kimski spent the day getting expert tuition to take her powder and tree skiing to the next level. *K* had a blast exploring icy cold Sapporo. And Crazycat nursed her cold after quick blast on the hill .and lunch at Boyoso.

People who lack 'lift-queue-etiquette' are a pain in the arse. One of the advantages of being a snowboarder is that you have a 'free foot' that you can use as a weapon. For example, you can use your unstrapped foot to 'accidentally' stand on their skis/snowboards every time they try to move forward in the queue. And if they're skiers and you're close enough when they get to the front of the queue, another good tactic is to 'accidentally' step on their binding release mechanism. This manoeuver works best when perfectly timed just as the gates open for them to move forward to get on the lift. If you're really discreet, they'll never know it was you. :)

We experienced queue jumpers in Hakuba. Snowbuck planted his ski pole in the bank opposite which acted as a suitable barrier. There was much burbling from behind as the lads were split up and those behind had to wait but they didn't try it any further in that queue.

On that topic - it was 40minutes in the queue just to buy a day pass at Hirafu, nevermind the Gondie queue!
Driving to Hanazono was the right call! I'm not sure why those lads were so keen to queue jump (they weren't the only ones either!) - it wasn't long!! We skied straight onto the chair after run 1 and continued to do so until more people made thier way over from Hirafu. Even then, the queue hardly ever extended beyond the RFID gates!!

Fun morning. Just stopped for a coffee - it's a tad chilly out there!!

We are guided today - which is good because the visibility is pretty poor. Much better in the trees.

Bit slabby and few cornices in susceptible spots, some gates still not open after the recent storms.

Unlikely to be too many pics from today due to vis and the fact that I'm at my limit keeping up! LOL No time for me to go below and pull the phone out.

Every other day @gareth_oau ... Family chair, one run, on skis ... Really dude?! LOL
I know I'm the safety nazi, but that's overkill!
