OMG parents may actually be able to tell kids apart on the ski fields this year as not every second child will be wearing the same clothes.....:out:

Decathlon and Anaconda may be able to play into this space this year, no signs yet of what they might be doing.... Both have their regular range on their websites.

I would be surprised if they did anything at all before we know what the Southern Hemisphere season is doing. :(

Both chains still have some remnant stock from 2019 - Decathlon in particular has some good items at very competitive prices - but limited range.

Their thermals and entry level gloves are not a bad buy.

In particular their hard shells - in small sizes for touring offer options in the $250 range which would ordinarily be over $350.

Their website only shows entry level goggles and helmets atm.

Paddy Palin remainders also have some semi-decent gloves on sale - as well as Osprey backpacks.

This off-season season I’ve pocketed a set of DPS Cassiar Alchemist skis, Marker Alpinist tech bindings, Dynafit ST Rotation 12’s tech. bindings, Technica Cochise 130 DYN touring boots, Dynafit tour pants, a new set of gloves, a light Patagonia puffy and a new emergency Bivvy Bag - talk about maxing out - but the prices have been too good to resist!

Waiting for the AUD to recover before I pick up the Hilleberg Soulo 4 season tent....

I was wondering if the Aldi sale was going to happen this year. I’m slightly bummed because both kids need new gear. Obviously keeping everyone safe is the priority. I suppose I’d better pony up the $$$ to get it from Proski.

I was thinking 2nd hand could see a big resurgence given the Aldi sale is off.

The whole 2nd hand snow sales thing is incredibly slow at the moment.

Aldi and cheap gear killed it previously.
Maybe it won’t come back because the ski season is unlikely - but maybe it will because no Aldi ski sale...

I have been keeping an eye out, but both kids need size 14 boys gear, and I haven’t seen any stuff on Gumtree or ebay.

EDIT: I’ll keep my eye out and see what Anaconda is doing. Do you know what their gear is like in comparison to Aldi?

Nah. Usually there are hundreds of posts online selling cheap Aldi stuff this time of year. Pants... One use. $10 etc etc.
As well as a abundance of other snow gear.
This year. Nada.. It's quiet as on the trading pages.

Slightly higher in quality (debatable) plus more expensive- they also carry some premium brands at less competitive prices.

If you’re in Vic take a drive to Narbethong and talk to @teckel at Mystic Mountains Ski Hire or hit up Rocky Valley ski hire in Toowonga/ Mt Beauty - ex-hire gear on sale sometimes....

And while you’re in Narby make sure you snap up the Rooftops maps series from Teckel as well!

Unfortunately, I’m in NSW. Near Newcastle specifically. Anaconda is right across the road from Proski.

I had a look last night at the prices of the gear on the Anaconda website. I’m not sure what the waterproofing and breathability ratings are on the 37°S gear is like, but that’s the range that is close to the Aldi price point. The Chute stuff is rated at 10K/10K, but the price point is similar to what the Proski stuff is currently on sale for. The price difference is so minimal I might as well take the kids to Proski and get them gear that doesn’t look like every other kid’s on the mountain.

I should add that I usually buy all their gear a size bigger than their current sizing. The last set of gear I got from Aldi lasted for 3 seasons before they outgrew it.

I took the family off to Proski this morning to kit the kids out. Turns out I got a 25% discount on everything for being a member of the Newcastle Uni’s snow sports group. Kids are very happy with their gear.

Most of the stuff was only around $15 an item more expensive by the time the discount was applied. The exception was Mstr 9’s Spider jacket. It was the only jacket they had that fit him and gives enough growth room for next year as well.

Worth supporting our specialist retailers! Mr9 will love that jacket and over 2 seasons - that’s a win...

Definitely. I love Mstr 9’s jacket as well. I wish it came in my size.

I bought a pair of bib and brace pants for myself towards the end of last year after getting grease stains all over my white pants that won’t come out. My jacket is quite close-fitting, so I’ll have to dig it out and make sure it fits over the new bib and brace.
