i observe 2.4mm of rain in the last hour at perisher, and 4c.
Some of the Thredbo cams starting to look patchy and sad.
15 degrees here in Lithgow now!!!
Andrew miskelly on twitter with some pretty spinny speckle clicky
I am in Adelade atm still 20 c at 7pm
4.5 C @ Perisher & 14.6mm since rain began @ 11.20 today. Hopefully only 24 hrs of damage before the goodness returns.
A little break down of where everything sits now for the coming 48 hours.
Arrived today. Front side is looking ****ed, haven't seen backside. Village roads should be cleared, they're clearly hanging onto the desperate hope of a dump tmrw.
15c in melbourne atm. Don't think it's going to drop much further. Almost summer night stuff this is. Can't say I've experienced a string of warm nights like this in the middle of winter before.
Sadly the season starts all over again for most resorts this Saturday. I've not seen such rapid snow melt in mid July before and I've done 30 Aussie seasons in a row. Plenty of times I have seen ups and downs with tropical blasts in August but haven't seen this before. A decent base all but gone in 5 days!
which resort you talking about? or all resorts in general?
Respectfully, I've seen this happen plenty of times before, and I'm not even that old.
Prefrontal red zone needs elongatoring to include Ceduna
Go right ahead man. It's indicative not comprehensive.
Victoria is all but starting again, Thredbo's looking very sad and perisher will prevail like it always does. That's not a plug for anyone, that's just the way it is.
Just ones take on obs here bud
I don't think I'm that old either! If you have some stats that shows where 60 odd cm of base was lost in 6 days between the 16th and 22st July then I'd like to see it. I haven't had a jumper/jacket on in Canberra this week or my heater on, let alone even think about lighting the fire! Those cams are going to look tragic by 6pm tomorrow.
July 2 years ago I was at Falls Creek to see half a meter of base washed out to dirt. Village roads cleared and traffic allowed in. Sorry, this is not the first time this has happened and won't be the last.
Bit OTT IMO.
Ok, even though I grew up in Albury, I will admit I don't follow VIC conditions that closely anymore but with 122cm at Spencers CK less than a week ago which will probably be about 65cm tomorrow evening; I haven't seen the base disappear so quickly in NSW at this stage in July. Like I said, I've seen it happen in August. Lets be grateful that there is another storm on the way.
By this time next week, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about
How, nearly 30cm was lost from Spencers in half a week and it will be another 30cm by tomorrow night. I'd love to be skiing my nuts off at the moment but I'm just calling what I'm seeing. There's no point sugar coating it, it has happened and its worth observing, just like the storm that's about to hit will also be worth observing.
I don't think 30cm will,be lost in 24 hours. But ive never observed losses too closely
Still 21 in Adelade at 11 pm snow a long way away
pouring rain, windy and warm in inner east of Melb right now. Radar says ugly day. Buller 5.5C, 90kmh winds and incoming. Gonna be an interesting week ahead.
so glad we got our retaining wall footings poured yesterday - not going to be a lot of outdoor work for the next 4-5 days IMO
Yeh absolutely smashing down, and very mild here in Melboure.
Well it's windy and very wet in Thredbo right now. Good thing heading home today. Hopefully Perisher from the 5th is the goods.
13C in Cooma. At least it's clear for now
Hairdryer set to max. 5C and 100kmh gusts at thredbo top station.
Strong winds swirling up the Snowy River valley at Dalgety. Red sky at morning
Yep, I remember something like this 2 (or 3) years ago. Rain on a Friday, 50 cent base - when we were headed up Sunday. Saturday our "snow guarantee" kicked in. When does that EVER happen. Normally they'll spin Big D, Summit trainer and some other bs lift on a 1m strip of man made just to satisfy these requirements. But there was NO snow. I got a full refund. Then the rain turned to snow and we bought back in (same apartment) from the Tues or Wed and were skiing on 50 cent fresh the second half of week. It was the third week of July.
I don't think the base will be eclipsed today, but looks otherwise quite similar.
dinner plain...very windy and wet.plus 7.
Kids still getting ready for race club training
Gloomy, low cloud and drizzle in Collector. Looks wintery then my car reminds me it's not @14C.
Hardly a July morning in the Upper Yarra....16deg, wet and a warm wind
A bit of shepards warning out of Sydney this morning...
5mm in last 1.5hrs perisher
At least perisher cams are so foggy you can't see the cover atm
43mm at Hotham in the last 23 hours, double Perisher (but more to come for Perisher)
Stepped outside this morning (Elwood) and I thought someone had their heated on outside.
The wind on the face was oddly warm.
And not even the worst of it has hit. BOMs +80mm ringing true!
Lucky for NSW resorts it has been slipping south, but about to get pushed up. The prefrontal looks a little brutal on this one. But the sight in the Bight!
Thredbo Village - flogging down, car says 10C. Almost want to ski just for the experience
Do not look at the cams...do not look at the cams.
You can look at them tomorrow
Just going to avoid all the cams until tomorrow morning when everything will be white and fluffy again
OMG, I just looked. I wonder if Highnoon is open today!
Pruning Roses in a tee shirt on the Mornington peninsula.
2013, I skied down the Kosi chair line, came back the next week and it was back to grass, FF only. 24hrs later I was knee deep.
What a disaster , another crappy season. Need a meter to recover from the damage.
If only temps were a bit lower in this part of the world......
Big 4 will hold up fine.
With the previous major system's having been very windy, there is a metre + of snow on some aspects and none in others- ridgelines, exposed runs etc...
Lower thredbo doesn't count, or the B resorts. That's standard for them.
No need to be hysterical.
