4.5 C @ Perisher & 14.6mm since rain began @ 11.20 today. Hopefully only 24 hrs of damage before the goodness returns.

Arrived today. Front side is looking ****ed, haven't seen backside. Village roads should be cleared, they're clearly hanging onto the desperate hope of a dump tmrw.

15c in melbourne atm. Don't think it's going to drop much further. Almost summer night stuff this is. Can't say I've experienced a string of warm nights like this in the middle of winter before.

Sadly the season starts all over again for most resorts this Saturday. I've not seen such rapid snow melt in mid July before and I've done 30 Aussie seasons in a row. Plenty of times I have seen ups and downs with tropical blasts in August but haven't seen this before. A decent base all but gone in 5 days!

Victoria is all but starting again, Thredbo's looking very sad and perisher will prevail like it always does. That's not a plug for anyone, that's just the way it is.

I don't think I'm that old either! If you have some stats that shows where 60 odd cm of base was lost in 6 days between the 16th and 22st July then I'd like to see it. I haven't had a jumper/jacket on in Canberra this week or my heater on, let alone even think about lighting the fire! Those cams are going to look tragic by 6pm tomorrow.

July 2 years ago I was at Falls Creek to see half a meter of base washed out to dirt. Village roads cleared and traffic allowed in. Sorry, this is not the first time this has happened and won't be the last.

Ok, even though I grew up in Albury, I will admit I don't follow VIC conditions that closely anymore but with 122cm at Spencers CK less than a week ago which will probably be about 65cm tomorrow evening; I haven't seen the base disappear so quickly in NSW at this stage in July. Like I said, I've seen it happen in August. Lets be grateful that there is another storm on the way.

How, nearly 30cm was lost from Spencers in half a week and it will be another 30cm by tomorrow night. I'd love to be skiing my nuts off at the moment but I'm just calling what I'm seeing. There's no point sugar coating it, it has happened and its worth observing, just like the storm that's about to hit will also be worth observing.

Yep, I remember something like this 2 (or 3) years ago. Rain on a Friday, 50 cent base - when we were headed up Sunday. Saturday our "snow guarantee" kicked in. When does that EVER happen. Normally they'll spin Big D, Summit trainer and some other bs lift on a 1m strip of man made just to satisfy these requirements. But there was NO snow. I got a full refund. Then the rain turned to snow and we bought back in (same apartment) from the Tues or Wed and were skiing on 50 cent fresh the second half of week. It was the third week of July.

I don't think the base will be eclipsed today, but looks otherwise quite similar.

Lucky for NSW resorts it has been slipping south, but about to get pushed up. The prefrontal looks a little brutal on this one. But the sight in the Bight!

    Respectfully......naah.
    Ridiculous post.
Big 4 will hold up fine.
With the previous major system's having been very windy, there is a metre + of snow on some aspects and none in others- ridgelines, exposed runs etc...
Lower thredbo doesn't count, or the B resorts. That's standard for them.
    No need to be hysterical.
