Holy shit, I've never seen it from that perspective. Is the pic distorted/ stretched vert at all?
That is awesome
The conditions were pretty good on all aspects. So every aspect was baggable. Caurthers North Face and the wind lip walking back up the spline. Ran out of time to do the chutes to the north, needed more time.
A wee bit. It sorted of happened by accident.
Dropped off the top of Twynum and came so close to sending it over there, I can observe it looked mental from afar.
Good morning at Perisher, can confirm 10cm with deeper drifts. Trees between interceptor and Pretty Valley were on. Base has filled in nicely.
Hoping to be close to the first T at North P later this week
(cool and breezy in jindy tonight)
It was nice out there this morning we had first chair up(interceptor)
fresh snow this morning. 2cm at smigs.
and its started to snow again.
Bleak, windy, little drizzle in Thredbo Village.
Hopefully nice windblown up high like yesterday.
Where is that?
isn't it the Sentinel? Main Range NSW.
I think it's here Mick. NSW
Wet and soggy in Falls car park, showing 2 degrees. Looked like they'd lost a fair bit of snow on the side of the road on the drive up. Hopefully ok on the slopes. Very soft queuing for the Express.
Update: snow pretty heavy on the slopes but defo 3cm or so fresh on top. Good fun but would be even better if we could see more than 5m ahead!
Mate well done, that is just the perfect sentinel shot
It's got a tad of vert exageration doesn't it?
Or I'm tougher than I thought
I observe the snow was good on that face.
There is no vertical exaggeration, its just the spatial space of the ridge has been compressed by 33 %. This tends to show the vertical relief a whole lot better.
So the illusion is 33 % of 30 degrees = 39.9 Degrees.
But if your looking at the line visually it always feels heaps steeper than what the photos says.
Stay on topic. Weather obs of this period only.
On internet blogs perspective is everything. Why ski it from this perspective?
When you can look better having skied it from this perspective!
CC - just trying to show those interesting fog observations in the valley.
20 degrees in Avalon (that's between Geelong and Melbourne for you out-of-towners).
Tiny teeny little crystals between rain drops in jindy. Temp 1.4 but somehow these little crystals are falling.
I observe what looks to be..........well "moisture"...... on the perisher cams at Smiggins and Happy valley.
Light showers coming through Jindy at 10c
Just arrived at Hot-ham, not raining, zero degrees. Some mizzle
I just drove home and my car told me it was 9c. Where you getting 1.4c from?
Umm BOM current temp in Jindabyne a few hours ago when the cloud & rain came thru. It did feel a lot colder compared to when the sun came back out. But I'm guessing bom use Perisher temp for jindy. My bad. But there were little crystals and it was a lot colder then. Hence my questioning.
Yes yes I get it.
No, no, no...was not having a go at all!!!
Just for people's information, that's all.
Awesome thunderstorm here in Frankson! Almost a summer like storm
Rumbles overhead in Prahran
Some thunder in Box Hill, now heavy rain.
Thanks BB. No offence taken. But I will be emailing oz weather (who apparently take there readings from BOM) and ask why it is so misleading. Cheers!
I observe almost gale force winds seeking to push in doors and windows at home. Seems like the forecasted front has hit (Moonbah). Ominous looming cloud was building along the range at dusk. No moisture here yet and still 8 Degrees!!
Bugger! Twas enjoying the lull in wind here at Island Bend.
There is no BOM in Jindy. Best comparision is Cooma Airport. But that is sometimes much colder or hotter than Jindy depending on the seasons.
Yeah I know that, and the winds are often stronger too. But I still don't understand where Kappy got 1.4c. Did he miss a 0?
But as an observation, looks clear on the Perisher cams for the night skiers.
Really rather warm here in Melbourne.
It's a "smart" phone app just taking the nearest automated weather station number and puting it on display as the current temperature.
Raining at Hotham = yay. some small frozen things falling
I thought many of these aps hook into "qualified" private stations that meet a sufficent standard of reporting and they crowdshare the data. though many do also just use the nearest BOM station and fudge it.
rain at smigs
FV cams look like it could be snow? BOM says 2c, so probably not
I am in Canberra for work and the last 2 days have been mild for the middle of Winter.
Car said 7c around 8am and was a balmy 14c out in the sun around lunchtime.
Heavy rain/sago at the lodge at south perisher ~1770m streams of water funnelling off the roof.
The 40cm mound of snow on the BBQ is looking more and more like an iceberg about to float away on the layer of water that has funnelled through.
The lodge thermo seems to be dropping but snow is very damp and getting rain damaged
Accurate report unfortunately - rain causing the icicles to fall off roof of lodge - but it feels like it will turn to snow later
Radar shows lots of incoming moisture
A bit of lightning in the Latrobe Valley.
