it's not snowing but it's also not raining at 1750m at Hotham. Quite heavy sleet
Has just gone 0c at Thredbo top station and falling. 1.2mm of precip so far.
Pissing down rain at smigs.
Snowing on merrits cam.
See attached screen grab currently reading 1.5. As Snow Blowey mentioned, the mystery resolved.
Picking up Perisher. The iPhone app used to do that, now grabs Cooma.
here is a good link for Jindabyne
rain/sago at smigs.
pre frontal rain photo, before the snow. The snow at the back of the lodge has taken a beating.
Perisher gauge shows 18mm all above 0c
Latest top station weather obs fro Thredbo, didn't drop below 0 until 2am when either the moisture dried up, or the gauge froze. From the cameras looks like maybe a cent or two up top, wet stuff under 1700m.
After a night of wind and rain it has started to snow.
Real mixed bag of weather this morning down in Tawonga Base Camp. Rain, sunshine and feels pretty mild. Expecting peak sogginess when we arrive up top this morning.
Fizzer system this week
couple of cm's on the 6 pack o-metre, location Aardvark, Hotham. Still snowing
I observe its blowing a gale straight down the river in Sydney
Now -2.5c Thredbo top station. Stay high for smiles all round.
I observe Lake Mountain's webcams are down. Again
And it's 1.8 deg there. Double
given the predictions thread was titled "weak systems"... can we really be considering something that doesn't really deliver all that much a fizzer?
I observed the "weak systems" and was expecting the predicted 5cm last night but it was all clear snow which hurt looking out the window. Unfortunately the cold air wasn't around last night to deliver.
Dusting on cedar wood table
It was always going to be touch and go this week. Although I must say I was surprised how mild it was yesterday.
Actually very mild in Melbourne this morning too.
I observe 2.5 degrees and an intermittent mixture of both clear and frozen precipitation with consistent high intensity gusts here at Island Bend (10klm down valley from Guthega for those that don't know). Visibility looks aweful at Blue Cow Mountain. Great day to catch up on paperwork. Thought I'd experienced my first thundersnow last night, but upon inspection found it was just the fireworks from Perisher front valley (sigh!)
Crusty crusty scrapy scrapy up at Falls. Thought it would still be wettish but only the very bottom is soft and the top has frozen after the rain. Hard work with a 4 year old! Very light snow/ice flurries occasionally and decent visibility.
For NSW dudes....perhaps better news for those sheltering in Island Bend!
looks to be snowing nicely on merrits cam.
another balmy winters day in Sydney
blowing and snowing at smigs. Not heavy, but starting to fill in some holes.
Doesn't know what to do at Charlottes, one minute sun, next whiteout, next sago. We did have some clear snow last night so off piste has a half inch crust.
Blowing hard at Blue Cow. Some chairs on hold so it will be the train back to Perisher. Great skiing earlier off Ridge until it closed in.
Looks to be snowing nicely on Merrits and HN live cams also very windy. Ha Not anymore passing showers.
Wind seems to have gone SW, Temps still marginal but some pukeage on and off now. Hotham
Hotham Central. Getting better, very nice.
Strangely warm for late July
Bit breezy, though....
yep... checking the intrawebby thang, daytime temps are averaging around 19 or 3 degrees over the long term average.
Some solid whitecaps on the harbour this afternoon.
Sydney forecast for 26C later in the week
Observe snow getting a little heavier on the High Noon Live cam.
Also observe someone carrying their skis and walking down High Noon. Going to be a very slow trip down.
Don't know where the "fizzer" has come from either. Nothing much was expected from this period although up high at thredbo it's been 3 days of freshies if you don't mind dealing with 75% being wind scoured and the vis being variable. Bring on tomorrow. Was snowing lightly when I left an hour or so ago.
Very nice flakes falling at 1750 asl approx
Buller feeling the love this arvo
Radar is showing a good 4-6 hours of precipitation still to hit the mountains. Would be hoping to see at least 10cm accumulation up high since it started earlier today.
Yes windy low rh we need rain and lots of it.I live on the escarpment between Sydney and the Gong and its drying out very quickly could be an ugly summer.
Ridiculously dry recently in the Gong.
hopefully, puking at Hotham
Here in Melbourne our biggest one day fall since April has been 7mm. Wet old Melbourne all the people up north say.
Even Baw Baw getting a little love this arvo
Yeah I had look at Melb too only 50 60mm since March not good
